    1st world problem i know

Chilling at home watching an old movie called demolition man.

In the original movie detective John Spartan (sylvester stallone) is invited to taco bell for dinner.

In tonights version he is invited to pizza hut (the dubbing is terrible).

Has product placement got so bad that companies can now pay to have lines in movies changed?

So, wait there is a remake ?
Or it is the original with Stallone and they redubbed the pizza hut part to Taco Bell ??

It was always pizza hut when i watched it

    eta:
For the European Release, references to Taco Bell were changed to Pizza Hut. This includes dubbing, plus changing the logos during post-production. Taco Bell remains in the closing credits.

I think the tv edits were localised for markets that didn't have taco bell

    European vs US release.

It was taco bell in the original but as there was no taco bell outside of the US they changed it to pizza hut. Made no sense to change it and the dubbing was just woeful.

I only seen that recently the first couple of times I seen it, it had taco bell in it.

Had it on DVD when I was younger and it was always Taco Bell. When it was on Sky Movies it was the badly dubbed Pizza Hut.

You're watching a European version. As we clearly have no idea what Taco Bell is, they had to change it

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Remember it as being Taco Bell as well

All the versions that I have seen said Taco Bell. I saw it in the cinema here when it was released.

This must be a new edit of it.

I've managed to avoid this whole controversy by never looking at the film. I don't think my life has suffered too much because of it...

Nah, it is wonderfully sarcastic of utopian aspirations.

"But we're police officers - we're not trained to deal with that level of physical violence!"

I've only ever seen the taco bell version any time i've watched it and i'm pretty sure i've seen it on RTE. I didn't even know the pizza hut version existed until now. According to IMDB the UK release retains Taco Bell. Presumably we get the UK version. the pizza hut version is only for the rest of europe.

JUst watched it there on youtube. I've only ever seen the original Tacobell version. That edit is hilarious. I really hate overly obvious advertising in movies/tv shows.

Funny, I remember it as Taco Bell but wouldn't have thought it was product placement as I remember it as Stallone's character being amazed that Taco Bell won the "fast food wars" and that amazement being based on the fact he thought it was crap?

I remember this throwing me off when I saw Demolition Man on Norwegian TV (Still in English, with subtitles). Any other time I had seen it on Irish / UK TV, it was Taco Bell...just like the US original.

What suprised me most was the crappy redubbing itself. It almost sounded like they jumped Stallone just after filming and shocked him with the idea of it:

Crew: Mr. Stallone! Wait! We need to reshoot and have you say "Pizza Hut" for Europe version.

    Sly: Pizza Hut?!!

    Crew: [Click!] Good enough....cheers...

Despite their efforts you still see a tonne of Taco Bell branding everywhere.

Under-rated classic. Snipes and Bullock are great.
