Interested, I see applications are later this year 18th of feb .... would it be worthwhile going to do the preparation course for the aptitude test and interview run by career services? Also if anyone in this apprenticeship already could maybe pm me that would be much appreciated as ive a few questions...

I got the online preparation course run by career services seems pretty good its the exact same tests as the proper tests on the application. The online course teaches you how to complete each test properly

It's 500 max words, I didn't read any minimum. I wouldn't read to much into that, just explain why you want the job etc.. I just done a short piece, I went with a load of stuff last year and didn't get past the tests.

Think of it like this, imagine someone asked you that question, record it on your phone or something and then type it up if you want to go all out.

Doubt I will get past them this year either as I felt they went worse than last year.

As I said done them yesterday, they are the same as last year, I dunno it depends on how you find these tests in general. The function one with the shapes is bit of a hard one and the shape thing is a bit hard.

I did them last Tuesday, they are quite challenging, the time limit really adds to the pressure. Make sure you understand what you are being asked to do. And don't stress out like I did XD

Anyone know about disclosing a disability to the ESB? My son has Aspergers Syndrome. Would that go against him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭kamiljkamil

Just did the tests myself. Some were tricky, especially the geometric shapes one. Other than that reasonably ok. Anyone have any idea when we will hear back about results?

Did anyone else get an email yesterday saying they hadn't submitted their tests, and then another email today saying they had made an error and everything was fine? Thought it was strange.

I wonder has there being any replies!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭kamiljkamil

    Haven’t received anything myself either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 meloidea

I doubt it based on the timings of last year apprenticeship. I imagine everyone will hear either way by the end of April at the latest. Very frustrating though.

I was talking to an apprenticeship at the RDS apprenticeship fair a few weeks ago and she said 6000 applied last year and they only took on 70 people. As a female mature candidate I was a bit disheartened to hear 500 women applied and 10 were taken on to start the apprenticeship. The odds for being accepted are quite low so I'm looking around for other apprenticeships too.

Just got an email. Didn’t get through unfortunately. Anyone get through?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,908 ✭✭✭TallGlass

    Nothing still either.

Wonder what takes them so long? Surely the computer system has the top candidates picked out!

To be perfectly honest, I don't expect anything out of this other than 'better luck next time'.

My son got an email this morning, he was unsucessful :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 meloidea

Sorry to hear your son didn't get through, I'm still waiting to hear anything. I definitely don't have high hopes of getting through to interview stage as I found the aptitude test quite challenging.

Still no news from the ESB. Has anyone heard anything from them today or yesterday? It's so hard to know either way how it will go.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,908 ✭✭✭TallGlass

    Nothing this side anyway.

I waited till near May last year and was told no.

    Sit tight folks.

If you haven't heard anything by now you'll be accepted into the next stage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44 shovtco

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65 ✭✭Bazzers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 Mrs.E

Is it true that in the interview they ask you to do electrical maintenance eg. Rewire a plug etc?

Don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but I was waiting this long last year and still got the 'Thanks but no thanks' email.

Be prepared for a TBNT as it's statistically the most likely option.

I got the "Better luck next time" email on May 5th last year, haven't heard anything this year yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 meloidea

Still waiting on news from the ESB. I wonder what the interview consists of, if through to the next stage. I hope we all hear either way this week as its a very long wait.

There could be something in that as I did the aptitude test 2 days before the closing date too. They could be going in order of application date.

I applied within the first week and have heard nothing back, but if it's going this way there might be hope yet lol
