VF Modem HG658C keeps losing bridge mode??

I have the VF HG658C in bridge mode for years and it never missed a beat, its since FTTC so quite a while but about a week ago it dropped out of bridge mode and I put it back on but today I noticed it had gone back as well. What would have caused this? Is it a new software update or is there something new I should be doing when I bridge it?

Has me stumped.

Can I request a new gateway from VF and then bridge that?

Or could I use a spare eir F2000 as that has better wi fi range?
