    1) Gel with the new putter to reduce 3 putting

Off the back of a really poor year. Goals are similar to last year.

Get to single figures - currently off 12
Practice more and play less competitions
    Get lessons
    Figure out a putting stroke
Play more strategically around the course
Hope to get around and play a few links courses
Get back to shooting low 80`s or even brake it

    Easy.. :)

Fairly stagnant year for me last year

    1) Learn to use the bounce when pitching

    2) Keep up video lessons to improve swing consistency and ball striking

    3) Get more qualifying comps in

    Stretch goals

    4) Get down to cat1

    5) Level par round

    1. Get cut 2 shots (down to 13)
    2. Play to my handicap more consistently and feel rewarded when the cuts come
    3. Have rounds without any scratches
    4. Be more consistent from 80 - 100 yards
    5. Play more golf
    6. More meaningful practice

Play more than my average of six games a year for the last few years.

Simply play more , 5 full rounds last year is shocking.

Probably some carry-over from last years goals (which weren't achieved :o)
    • Get to Single Figures (currently 11.6)
    • Improve number of Up & Downs (at around 20% currently)
    • Get to the majority of Boards Society Outings & Make the Jug Team
    • Try retain the Boards Society Captains Prize (think maybe I'd be the first to do that :D)
    • Win a home club competition

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,908 ✭✭✭RoadRunner

LOL, that's just never going to happen :D

Been thinking about this for a while and have a few:
    • Play more boards events, only made a few last year
    • Qualify for Jug team
    • Level par 9 holes on home course
    • > 3 birdies in a competitive round
    • Like bigchap; stretch goal would be CAT 1 (9 now)

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,124 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

    1) Get the h/c down somewhat. Had wanted single figures in mind last year, but didn't even get cut. So get to Category 2 would be nice and manageable

    2) Win a comp would be nice, not important and if I don't do it I won't class it as a failure.

    3) Try get to some more opens/play more courses

    4) Do a level par 9 at home club (36). Actually did a 37 last year which was unreal. I'd say this would nearly be my hardest goal.

Tbh, once I'm enjoying it and playing semi-decently I'll be happy. If none of the above are achieved, so be it

    1. Get down to 7 having reached 8 a few years ago (currently 10)

    2. Win a club comp

    3. Eliminate acting like a dick after 3 putting

    4. Try to enjoy it

My goal is to not play golf anymore.

I've played for about 20 years but throughout the summer, it just felt like an absolute chore, I wasn't enjoying it at all, and if I'm honest with myself it has been the case for a few years. I stopped in the Autumn and haven't missed it at all. I'm going to let my club membership lapse, might play the odd casual round but sadly I think I'm done with the game.

I've stepped away from the game a couple of times, both times for about 4 or 5 years. Back at it a few years now and really enjoying it.

Take a break, but id imagine you will end up back at it again at a later date.

I had a half enforced break from the game. Between not driving and low paying job making membership unsustainable, the bug is right back. Take the break, we'll worth it. Don't think the love totally goes, and you'll find it's great to get out eventually

    1) Get down to single figures from my current handicap of 10.3

The last time I played off 9 was back in 2010 so it would be good to start and finish the decade as a single digit handicapper.

    2) Shoot 100 birdies over the year

In 2017 I aimed to play 100 rounds of golf and found it a good motivator to play even when I was feeling a bit lazy. Similarly I hope this will motivate me to keep plugging away at the end of rounds when I am playing poorly.

Considering that I generally average less than 1 birdie a round this might prove to be overly ambitious. However I am off to a good start with 6 birdies in my first 4 rounds of the year.

    - get back to single-figures (currently 10.5)
    - for once and for all, stop trying to get every inch out of every club and learn play within my game (this has been the goal every year for the last 20 years though)
    - understand and resolve my issues with balance through the shot - all clubs (when my game goes bad it is generally down to instability in my swing)
    - stop putting myself under pressure and enjoy the game more while I am on the course

  • Registered Users Posts: 332 ✭✭trigger26

Get to single figures from 10.4

Stop getting worked up about medals and allow myself to enjoy challenge more

    Make provincial town team

New golf bag and a putter with a butter soft feel to it:)

Sort my chipping, tis killing me

Play less, practice short game more, more gym work and a proper warm up and stretching routine before rounds. Stay injury free is the main goal. Missed far too much of 2018, only cut one shot and had a few more in sight before the body caved in.

First qualifying round of the year yesterday in Citywest and checked one item off the list. Started well with a bird, bogey on 3 followed by a pretty stupid double on 4, everything then clicked and i hit 14 pars in a row.
Finished 2 over for easily my best ever round. 43 pts, 1.2 cut and now off 8 (very nearly 7).
    Delighted!

    I have a few :)
    • Get back to hitting the ball as I did during the summer when I scored 90 twice.
    • Finally break 90 and hopefully more than once.
    • Get out to my first Boards Society event.
    • Get my 20 handicap down to the teens
    • Win a competition at some point. 2nd place and 3rd place this year were only a shot or two away from victory.
    • Play a round without a triple bogey

Just re-read this thread and forgot I posted my goals.

I've gotten 2,3,5, and 6 all done and in the one round. If I can do it again in a non-placing round then I'll have all 6 done.

In truth, with placing involved, I don't really count it. Can't seem to break 90 without an asterisk beside it :(

Do you have a plan for these? I also want to play both.

Shortest lived plan ever, phoned Mourne GC and no Open Week this year due to The Open in Portrush.
    RCD in 2020 so.

I'm just going to green fee Dun Laoghaire, if they have an Open I'll use that route

No to ambitious this year only goal is to play more !!

Playing nearly a round a week and sometimes more so my goal is going well. New goals are:

    1. Keep playing average once a week and hopefully more
    2. Win a medal (done on Saturday) ✓
    3. Win a gross (also done Saturday)✓
    4. Break 80
    5. Improve GIR and Putting
    6. Get to 10.1 or less (previous best)
    7. Play 2 scratch cups
    8. Win a Boards Outing

Think they are good goals for now

Firstly, well done on winning your Medal. Many people go a lifetime without winning one.
But you won a gross without breaking 80? That is unusual.

Only 30 women played the medal and only 2 other with handicaps less than 20 and i think i have the lowest club handicap by about 4. (I'm off 12 ATM)
