Prices on done deal

What is it about farmers not putting prices on done deal If you search for a car or anything else prices will be shown They also say then no time wasters or tyre kickers but they won’t put down the price. Is it they don’t want some one they know seeing it or what. If I am looking for something I just don’t bother ringing if they don’t put up a price

If selling equipment I post a price. If selling stock never do. If a guy is looking for let’s say, springers they’d need to see them. If they don’t commit to viewing them then wasting both our time

If I’m buying stock I never ask price till I view

I put up an ad lately for a tractor for a neighbour, I told him put up a price so as to eliminate the time wasters, his reply was that his neighbours would see the ad and they'd know what he was looking for it, he sold tractor for 1500 less than he was looking for it and lied to the lads who asked how he got on about how much he got for it, I didn't see the point of it but each to their own I suppose , it's only himself he was foolin

I’m the opposite, I’d always ask a price on the phone for animals. That avoids any further time wasting if your way off each other. Why would you bother calling to a lad if there was no prospect you could make a deal.

So if the price is right would you buy unseen?

My way neither of us waste time:)

No but who would travel and then find out the lad is living in hopes of 1970’s prices.
Mae would talk price before travelling, always, never ever “come and see what you think”, I’ve not got that sort of time to be wasting and no interest in just a chat either.

When we chance stock on DD we always price them.

So it’s ok for him to travel along way to see animals that are ridiculously priced ?
    Are you for real?

Nothing worse than waiting for a gob****e who says they are in their way to view something and they never turn up

I put in min of 1 euro in all farming adds and half adds disappeared. I won’t ring anyone who doesn’t put up a price and any else I asked sated the same so I think you are wasting your money putting up a add if you don’t put up the price

When you put an add on done deal, you have to be ready for all sorts.
I would put the price on stuff and would be more inclined to ring someone that has stuff priced.
Some lads are for the birds, so there's little point in going to view sometime only to discover that the seller has it priced at crazy money.

Years ago I drove 100 miles to the arse hole of west Cork to look at an item that was put on Buy and Sell (remember that) as in very good condition to find that it was literally a mouldering pile of rust.
During the conversation the seller told me that he had recently lost an eye in an incident with a flying steel nail.
It was a consolation to me as I drove home.

My dad would be very accommodating to any one buying an Angus bull, I have none of it and just say if you don't buy it someone else will, I've stuff to do

If I see something I am interested in and there's no price I will ring. If the owner is unwilling to state a price I will not go to look at what ever it is for sale, the same if the price is well outside my budget. I see no point in travelling even across the road unless I have an idea that there is a possibility of a deal

There is a thing in the Irish psyche that we can't help when selling 2nd hand items. We are always hoping that some fool will come along and pay us 20% or 30% more that the cost of the item brand new in the shop. And if that fool doesn't appear we are then open to sane offers.
We can't help ourselves. Look at 2nd hand tellys on Done Deal for proof of this theory.

I always check prices on ebay UK before buying anything on donedeal/adverts.ie

Put a calf up 2 weeks ago a lad rang to say he was on his way. Had to organise a lift for child to running , then as the lad hadn't turned up had to get someone else to collect him. Calf still here, will go to mart in New year.

I wouldn't rule out "no pricers".
You could be leaving a bargain behind you.
    Ring them have the chat.

When did we lose that ability to communicate?

Usually the "no pricers" aren't giving away bargains. They are hoping to find a mug.

That’s true but from what I have seen the no price ads are usually stupidly priced, if it looked good I’d be more inclined to ring but have rang with no price and if they quote mad stuff just say it’s a bit out of my budget can get anymore polite than that

I always put a price on what I’m selling both stock and machinery, cos it’s usually the first question that’s asked if I didn’t.
Thing is to add a few quid more than you are willing to let it go for.
I’ve yet to have a lad offer me more than I’m asking, so once ya knock a little off the original asking price everyone’s happy.

My OH would be like your Dad, I would be like you.

When we are selling stock I stay far far away from making a deal and only get involved with sorting out the paperwork/compliance certs. TBH if I was trying to sell stock I would end up broke cause I know I don't have the communication skills that are required, iykwim.

In terms of machinery, if price isn't stated I'd run past the add. Stock are would be different in that seeing them would be more important along with records etc. Of course perhaps from a dairy point of view where stock will hopefully be held for a number of years may be different from stock being finished or stored where there may only be a number of months where the margin can be made

Bought autumn calving cows in Sept. arrived at mans yard with jeep and box followed by tractor and cattle trailer. In fairness I knew seller well so nobody bulled.

Had a guy call here a few years ago to buy a beet chopper. Deal done he said he’d call back with a trailer to collect. Arrived back 10 mins later with trailer, turns out he had parked it in the village in case we thought he was stuck. Handed him back his money and sent him on his way, I feckin hate sly feckers.

In fairness I wouldn't blame that lad, if I arrived at alot of lads with a trailer they would be sure I was gona buy and wouldn't budge(wouldn't rate as sly in the slightest) In general I don't get much off stock because the guys selling decent stock won't move much on price. I won't travel here without a price unless it's within 20 minutes away which isn't far

Went to buy a machine and after traveling 2 hours the lad never showed up to meet me. I was selling a machine one time and this lad said he’d come up to look and if it was right he’d take it. He drove an hour and a half and then told me he’d take it at half the price I said no and left it at that. He drove about ten yards and said go on you’ll take it. I declined he drove another couple of yards and started again. I told him I was busy and the price was the price. He drove another couple of yards and got out and started shouting and waving his arms. I just started laughing and off he went.

Don't know anything about selling equipment but when it comes to selling stock we never post a price. Over the years we have come to the conclusion that by not posting a price you only get calls from genuine interested buyers. I post the max of 10 photos on DD and give a detailed description including worming/vaccination history, approx weight etc.

I've always maintained that dealing with the public is the best education anyone could receive. It takes all kinds to make a world and the above is only one example.
I'm not one to lecture anyone on how to conduct there business, I've much more worthwhile things to be at. However I would be of the opinion that if you were happy with the price received then it hardly made much difference.

Having to deal with people's idiosyncrasies is one of the reasons I prefer to buy through auctions or dealers. Under the hammer the deal is on or off quickly and some chance of a comeback. I'm sick of dealing with lads who expect top dollar and still think there doing you a favor by selling to you. Too many time wasters who expect gold for scrap and would waste everyone's time.
