Hi all, I’m a little unclear about the short story option for the English paper. Is it possible to give a retelling of a myth or legend, putting your own spin on it, creating your own setting etc? Would this count as plagiarism?

No, that wouldn't be considered plagiarism but rather modelling. Try not to copy it too much.

It shouldn't be plagiarism, but I'd check with your teacher. It should definitely have your own spin on it though, like an alternative ending or something. If you stick largely to the original story you'd have to consider what you want the examiner to reward you for - the quality of your descriptions, your creativity in adapting it to something else? But do check with your teacher!!
