    It's very good so far

I can't warm to it..sorry. A weak Collins..maybe I expect too much, and a lot of huffing and puffing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,275 ✭✭✭bobbyss

Bit bored already. Collins' accent already beginning to grate. Lots of talking. It's too pacy. Too many characters around. Too intense from the start. No build up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,632 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

I'm liking it so far. It's good. It can become better when it goes further into the series.

What's the point of an orphanage/nuns story taking up time in a a supposedly War of Independence documentary???

FFS we get it... Catholic Church..bad guys. But this is gratuitous. Develop the plots you're supposed to.

    Awful ****e..
Jesus how do these twits get away with it.
Dreadful penny pinching on use of locations.
    A few rooms,North Great George's Steeet,
    Dublin Castle ,Gravediggers Pub

    Terrible
And of course it was all the Nuns fault

RTE does the Tan War. They have their own agendas. It's BS.

How many years was she going to leave the child in a sleepover with the nuns?

I love been reminded how much the Catholic Church were *****.

No problem with that at all.

Thriller? Is there some doubt as to the ending?

What an epic story ruined by feeling the need to tick every box going. No imagination. Do we have to watch this ****e all the way up to 2022 and the civil war?

Tell me something. What would she have done with the baby if there hadn’t been the mother and baby home to look after him?

Depends on which political party your family traditionally voted for!

It's for another thread but the Catholic church, the RIC etc couldn't do what they did without the help of the ordinary people.

Bringing a 'blame the nuns' into a supposed covering of the War of Independence is just populist BS.

Illegal adoption of babies by wealthy American couples organised by Nuns is of course an epic story worthy of its own drama.
However this is supposedly about the War of Independence

Not sure if it is good or bad. The only thing, so far, is that it isn't as bad as that load of sh*te that was "rebellion". Any sign of the RTE supporters to tell us how good it was? Some of the characters won't be out of place in a Screenwriting 101 text.

Ffs, there is enough historical events during the war of independence without having to resort to the Catholic Church and kidnapping kids storyline.

I thought it was very good for the first night. Looking forward to next week already.

Well it'll be hard to see the tension in any action scenes involving Collins fighting for his life against the Brits.

Seems to be a very clumsily written backstory to explain the motivation of the agent. Of course there's RTE/SJW bonus points for slagging off the Catholic Church.

Why don't they show The Treaty 1991 movie with Brendan Gleeson as Collins? Brought out to mark the 75th anniversary of the signing of The Treaty. 1000 times better than this sh*te and never repeated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 94 ✭✭PrairieDawn

    Its a bit odd really.
Brian gleeson always plays a really shady character

The single mothers age doesnt seem right

In the next episode we meet Michael Collins gay lover who is a transgender Nigerian asylum seeker.
He opens a vegan cafe in Capel Street where clandestine meetings take place between IRA members and British Agents.

No sorry, scratch that, we cant offend the DUP ,by making references to the IRA ,so the meetings will be between Priests and Nuns and Lesbians

Isn't there meant to be a young Hillary Clinton leading the resistance to Donald Trump in it? :)

It isn't bad, apart from the trendy swipe at the Church.

The limited range of locations was mentioned earlier, but worse was the opening scene on a road with a load of modern telephone poles. How lazy can you get FFS for a scene they were using as a trailer, considering that there exist many suitable roads with no poles.

No. That’s not my question. She had a baby and she couldn’t mind the baby herself. So she put the baby in the convent. So she mustn’t have had family or friends who wanted the baby. So where should she have left the baby if not in the convent, and how much longer was she going to leave him (he looks about 3). Did he not deserve a chance of having brothers and sisters and a happy home?

In recent times, I have come to believe that the treaty of 1920 which led to the civil war has been a curse on our country. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, the Republic had no right to abandon nationalists in the north. Secondly, swearing an oath of illegiance to a foreign monarch meant that liars and traitors were likely to take seats in the Dáil. The culture and institutions of the Irish government were put in place by these people. When I see everything that is wrong about our country, I blame the treaty.

i thought it wasn't bad but at one stage i was going to switch over as i was sure i seen it before, then i looked into it and it was Rebellion i seen before. Is it all the same actors and plot or is it a continuation of Rebellion? i defo remember the two brother scenario in Rebellion. Whats the story with it?

They seem to be trying to do a continuation ....but the only actor available to play the same role was The Gleeson Fella ( all RTE dramas must have a Gleeson or else Brendan would go ballistic)
The rest of the cast had got better offers ...lucky for them

Except the Caddish bounder from the wealthy family ( Butler the Merchant Banker)
Maybe the Scarlet woman whose child has been kidnapped by nuns is the same.
Its rubbish anyway...read a good book instead,or even a bad book
