Surely it’s “Flogging” a dead horse, have never heard anyone say Beating a dead horse.

Their stuff has a combined whiff of cringe and desperation.

They're right. Think of how offended the animals feel when they hear those terms being used about them.

This is blatant Anti-Plantism at its worst.

Peta is American extremism at its best. Great craic so they are.

I don't think anyone actually takes them seriously though.

I've never met a Peta member in my life and I know numerous vegetarians.

It's just another mental American thing, no?

Maybe it does in America, but the scone originated in Scotland, where it rhymes with "gone". QED. :p

Peta have revenue of $50m a year. They employee 400 people full time to dream up this sh1t.

Like so many other "charities" in the US, from your TV evangelist to Susan G. Komen, these charities manage to convince a few wealthy people to give them ongoing support.

This turns them into massive corporations, and so it no longer becomes about the message, but about making more money for the executive board at the top.

Peta throw out this stuff because they know it'll grab headlines. Headlines == more exposure == more sponsors == big Xmas bonus for the board.

What about the phrase 'I'm so tired I could ride a dead horse home.'

Sounds like desecration of an animal carcass to me.

I'm all for treating animals better but they couldn't give a shite what you say about them.

These are the same kinds of idiots that got that Vinnie Jones ad where he kills a badly animated bird banned a few years ago.

To be fair the meat eaters that for some bizarre reason get offended about other peoples diets are just as moronic. I once mentioned something about eating Tesco meat free burgers here and some weirdo went into a rant about how vegetarians shouldn't get to eat something that tastes like meat because that's not what being a vegetarian is about.

PETA have a special message for the ladies: if you eat eggs, you can't call yourself a feminist:
So what does it mean, then, when women take another female’s eggs from her without a thought and readily pay money for her eggs, knowing that she was imprisoned, her reproductive cycle was controlled and manipulated, and she was forced to bear young on someone else’s timetable?
*ahem* never heard of laying mash? *ahem?

I love animals and am very interested in animal welfare. I don't like PETA. As someone else correctly stated.. they tend to hurt their own causes..Having said that I don't think they're worried these phrases offend the animals ffs. Just that using them in everyday life normalises the behaviours. (I'm not saying that's true though).

Personally I really like 'feeding two birds with one scone'. It sounds more pleasant and its kinda funny. I'm gonna start using it instead. I bet it will make the person I'm talking to smile and what could be bad about that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,390 ✭✭✭Cordell

If you feed a scone to two birds, that is, half a scone each, you will probably kill them both. So, killing two birds with a scone.

Scone could definitely feed more than just two birds.

They're also very unhealthy for birds and should not be fed to them. They're also promoting animal obesity, colic and laminitis by telling people to feed a fed horse.

PETA are insane. I love animals. I work with animals. I prefer animals over people any day. PETA are scumbags dressed up as a cause, whilst hurting that cause. They had a video a while back showing a cyst being lanced on a cow (not pleasant but necessary), and they tried implying that that was how you got milk as the infected pus pouring out was white. And of course, you had morons that believed them...

I'm glad they're coming up with these new, more enlightened phrases. We don't always have to say everything the same way we always did.

There's more than one way to skin a cat.

    speciesism! :D That's hilarious.

There's one of these angry misguided SJWs in work, now I am going to be dropping those phrases at every available opportunity now, in meetings and everything where she can't even complain. But I know she will be boiling her blood unnecessarily!

I think it's good to highlight the sheer lunacy of nonsense like this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,062 ✭✭✭✭anewme

I saw this yesterday and thought it was a joke. I actually burst out laughing at "feed two birds with one scone" and "feeding a fed horse"

I actually think they missed a trick with the flower one, taking a rose by the thorns makes sense and would fit into everyday language perfectly. But that's speciesism against roses.

By the way I am an animal loving veggie, but this is bizarre.
