Need car sold, any advice?

Anyone any advice on selling a car ?

It's an 07 1.8 so proving difficult to get rid of but it has a new NCT on it which I thought would help with the sale but no luck. I have it on Done Deal, Adverts and Gumtree and have had a few messages but nothing concrete.

I already have a new car and the other one is sitting outside my house and really needs to go.

I hear doing one of those social media raffles using the lotto numbers is popular.

Charge €20 per entry, get yourself a grand.

    Tax it for 12 months.

A years tax is 636 and it cost 100 for the NCT, I'd only be getting my money back so don't see the point in taxing it.

How much are you looking for the car? Personally I’d never even call an ad that didn’t have the price on it. Stick it in the bangernomics thread here also

Unblock the reg, show nct cert fully, take the full 10 photos, put an actual price on it, take out need gone and new car forces sale.

Give all extras, a/c does it have cruise control etc etc.
Radio aux port, arm rest etc....

Service history if any, last service if done recently.

I did have a price on it which I lowered three times and then changed to offers considered when there was no interest.

No price = no calls. I just move onto the next car

A pretty simple question, how much do you want for the car?

To be honest the OP cannot even get a single phone call of interest so I cannot see her selling 50 raffle tickets @€;20 each for a nearly 12 year old petrol Ford Mondeo.

OP I was in a similar situation recently.
I dropped the advertised value to €950 and then got an offer a little below that.
I imagine there is a class of buyer scanning cars in the up to €1,000 range.

I had hoped to get 800-1000 for it once I got the NCT on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,481 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Drop the asking price to €999, that way it will be caught by the sub 1k search filter by buyers looking for a cheap car. You might also want to update the NCT expiry date in the advert with the new date and replace the photo of the NCT cert number with a photo of the new disc.

I'd also get rid of the nonsense about "Twin complex surface lens halogen bulb headlights" from the description. It means sfa to a buyer and only adds confusion or disinterest to somebody reading it.

That description generated when I put the reg into Carzone

I'd remove it either way, its jargon that most people won't know or care about.

NCT is expired. I don't care that you have a photo. People will see "NEW NCT", then look at the NCT expiry, and see that it's 2 months old, and will close the ad.

As said. price; lower it to €999

Rename it from "2007 Ford Mondeo Platinum" to "2007 Ford Mondeo Petrol"

Picture of the dashboard when car is turned on, showing the mileage, and no warning lights. Of course, don't show this picture if there are warning lights.

Also, what's with the "one owner since 2009"? Was there nine before then?

Finally, turn car on, turn radio on, turn every bit of electronics on, and sit in the middle back seat and take picture of everything working.

And if it's nice this weekend, have the car washed and waxed (€20 job at the local petrol station), and take new photos.

At least you'd be getting it back, and the car would no longer be sitting on your driveway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,481 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Taxing it for 3 months might be more favorable.

I've made the suggested edits to the ad, I'll take new photos tomorrow and re post them. Fingers crossed

    Thanks

Heated front windscreen great for the bad weather, space out the text a bit it's all clumped up and hard to read.

Does that model not have cruise control.

Heading keep nct on it like NCT 06/19 or whatever it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

The problem is they are a disaster of a yoke.

The 1.8 isn't economical and is generally unreliable and both of these facts are common knowledge. That coupled with that fact that it's an old hat, undesirable model isn't helping.

I'd say price drop to €599 and take offers over €450, that's closer to the cars worth, but if you need to get a grand or close to it for the car i'd be prepared for a long wait and i'd be getting the car valeted and taking some nicer photos.

Look at your competition and it's the newer model Mondeo you're up against like this one for similar money

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/ford-mondeo/18972808

Also why are the door mirrors completely colour coded, looks odd and dubious!

Those 1.6's are a hape of sh1te though, along with being uneconomical and they're not cheap enough to tax either to make up for any of this. They're a very hard sale even at that price level.

The op's car is at most a circa €500 car.

Also op definitely don't waste money taxing it.

    Expect 150 euro minus fees

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 471 ✭✭Turbohymac

Also check the past mileage on that nct cert in 2016 it reads 152 miles then in 2018 it says 167km. ??? Maybe I misread it but those mileage readings wouldn't make any sense... also on the top of the. Done deal advert..it says previous owners 1. Then down further it says 2 previous owners...check over as these are issues that any prospective buyer will spot quickly.
Check your price against other similar cars..and dont overprice it..
And give it a bit of time..keep advert fresh.. otherwise it will be miles down on the listing.. cars don't sell overnight you could be looking a number of weeks to find the right person with lots wasters in between. That was my experience..
    Best of luck

Finally got an offer, the edits worked

    Hello and welcome,

    How are you Sir?

I am extremely interested in your motor automobile. It will be for my good wife Chantelle who lives in France.

Can I pay you and have my agent collect it and send it to my wife in France?

Please let me know good Sir

    Ha ha ha

Tell them you are in France next week to join the fuel riots and can meet up with him and Chantelle for a test drive. Failing that you are going to set it alight at the riot.

I'm presuming the NCT centre made a mistake and put mi after the previous reading because the dial is in km but I will check the previous cert and see what's on it, I hadn't spotted that, thanks

Ok, does previous owners include yourself ?
One person owned it before me so should it be 1 or 2.

I have checked and it seems to be priced about right , some of the lower spec models are priced higher and less NCT

The car never gave me a days of trouble apart from the usual wear and tear , never anything major. The only reason for getting a new car was after nine years I fancied a change.

Why are your mirrors painted completely?

They should only be painted on the front casing, yours look weird.

Husband is a barman, drunk customer got kicked out one night and went on a mad one in the car park and booted the wing mirror off. Got replacements off a mondeo that had been wrote off, no idea why they're painted , they were like that when we got them. They've been on it that long I'd forgotten we ever replaced them.

Take better photos in a slightly better looking spot.

The garage door takes the look away from the car.

Also put price at 950 as 999 just doesn't look right as it's trying to look like a dealer price.

regarding an auction. In october a 2008 FORD MONDEO LX NT 1.8 5 SPEED 1753cc 214,550 km sold for €900 at merlin. Obviously this car is 1 year younger than the OP's but it did much more mileage. also its the basic LX car.

regarding the selling fee they will be about €150 to €187 in the case of this car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,545 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Just lower the price to €500

That’s the new model Mondeo, OPs is the old model, which is a hard sell these days.

I think I might withdraw the ad and repost it on Done Deal. When I first posted it I got a good few messages, didn't get an offer but definitely plenty of interest. I've since lowered the price and nothing so I think it's just gone too far down to be noticed. I have used the Bump option but I don't think it made any difference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,022 ✭✭✭xabi

500 quid and you’ll sell it this week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,633 ✭✭✭✭punisher5112

I've an 05 diesel and I wouldn't be able to give it away.

It drives has nct but fuel pump is acting up so needs changing.

Not worth spending anything on it so I might donate to fire service when I've got this month out of it.
