Meeting suspended for 20 minutes. They need to get copies of Delaneys statement. I can imagine some FAI intern will be strolling down to Reeds of Nassau Street to queue up and get some printing done, along with a quick coffee break and 2 fags.

    You couldn't make it up.

He did say the statement was from Grant Thornton too and then went on to spout his FAI propaganda piece, but the committee to their credit picked that up.

That was some load of waffle. Lets hope the questions put to JD and the FAI are relentless but i fear they wont be.

"The money was just resting in my account".... repeated 1000 times.

Grant Thornton's audit work only began last Tuesday

Also a pertinent riposte from O'Dowd was to their statement that they get so much funding from UEFA and FIFA versus what they get from Sports Ireland was that the state themselves donated 52 million to to organisations and so are therefore funding the FAI via that route also.

I wasn't aware of this personally. Is there a source for this? Or did I pick it up wrong?

Don't think he clarified that though... just trying to sweeten things up with these mentions of reports and propaganda on Irish football.

I'm not following live as I'm working but was Conway talking about the funding the FAI provide alongside Sport Ireland?

As in, basically describing what the board are actually tasked with doing?

Jesus Christ. Talk about a bunch of top class spoofers.

In private session again. These are brilliant delay tactics being used by the FAI.

He deliberately handed that doc in late so they would then waste time.

How long do they have today to go through this?

He is going to get away with it

Unbelievable behaviour by a publically funded organisation.

Surely it's very simple. John Delaney stood over all this mess at the time. He now claims he is not willing to discuss a single element of it. For as long as that position remains, just withhold the funding they claim they so dearly need.

He is then presented with three options; i) resign completely, for the good of the game he's apparently so passionate about, ii) answer the questions due to be asked, for the good of the game he's apparently so passionate about, or iii) sit tight in silence til he gets his coveted UEFA gig, to the detriment of the game he's apparently so passionate about. If he chooses option 3, which I expect he would, surely the board have to act if they are proceeding in the good governance model they claim to be.

It's ironic that while the FAI sit and publicly declare they will do better, they actually behave in the very manner that has brought them to this point.

The ego within the FAI. Delaney's failure to actually take questions on the whole thing, sums them up. Withhold the funding.

How can the committee not say John and all you better make yourself comfortable as we are here until we get our answers instead of these deliberate delay tactics.

Delaney saying he'll turn up and then comes out with this statement. Should be told to ....

Whatever company law he may have broken should be checked and the book thrown at him.

He's turning this into a joke

You can be sure the only ones who wont suffer from this is the board who'll pay themselves and whats ever after that will go to senior men's team and then the leftovers to rest

The FAI know that if they keep withholding funding, the shortsighted people will blame Sport Ireland and the government with 'but the kids need it,' etc etc. Would rather short term chaos than long term spoofing with these crowd.

What I find amazing is that the CEO of an organization had no idea they were close to the cliff edge of their overdraft limit until they were literally about to go over the edge!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 801 ✭✭✭SeeMoreBut

Does Delaney model himself on Kim Jong or Putin?
