    hi,

Has anyone who already has children had their placenta encapsulated and taken it as a tonic/boost after birth?
I know very little about it but from what I have read it does seem an interesting idea......and anything that can help recovery/exhaustion would be welcome!

I'm in Galway, need to try ask the midwives at my next appointment whether they allow it/know where it can be done etc.

    thanks

I'd say it's snake oil and phycological, you'd be better off taking a multi vitamin and a good steak or piece of liver! A placenta is basically protein/iron and some left over hormones which would surely make your body think you are still pregnant or confuse it anyway? No other animal eats their placenta over weeks, they eat it straight away for that extra bit of protein and to stop predators being attracted, from experience though animals often get sick after eating it!!, so I don't see why imo why it would be of any benefit at all?!
Also how is the placenta processed to get it into capsules - are there regulations etc? And surely in such tiny pieces it's not going to have enough of anything to do any good. I'd save your money and go for a nice spa day!!;) :D
