10 days late, negative pregnancy tests, at what point do I consider going to the GP?

I have a cycle that is on average 29 days. Sometimes it can be a day or two late, three the most. I was due my period at end of the week before last or very early last week. I'm not 10 days late. I wasn't overly stressed this cycle.

I did a home test at the weekend when I was 6 days late. It was a Tesco test but it was negative. I tried the on Sunday morning but no control line came up. I ordered some pregnancy tests on Monday from an Irish shop. One box was the strips. The other was first response. I tested yesterday morning using the strip test but it was negative. I used first response this morning and it was also negative.

I read some things online about some women not testing positive on tests for weeks, others not testing positive at all and it only shows on a blood test.

I was never this late before. At what point do I consider going to the doctor?

The tests in the doctor's aren't as responsive as the first response one so I'd hold tight for now ..best of luck X

Thanks for your message. I think the first response tests hcg 12.5 MIU. I ordered some 10 miu online from an Irish shop and hopefully they will be with me in tomorrow morning's mail. I'll grab a sample of urine in a container if I can't hold in for the postman.

Surely at 10 days late, something would be happening at this stage like my period showing or a positive. I suppose there could be any other number of reasons too for late period. I'm anxious now. It's so frustrating.

You could have ovulated late this month (or you could generally ovulate later than 14days) plus a couple days for conception etc.
I'm pregnant at the moment and there was 15 days in the difference of dates. I was tracking because my period can be slightly irregular and knew from that that I ovulated 12 days later than I mathematically should have.

Thanks for your reply. Do you temp and check other signs of ovulation? I don't do any of that but I do keep an on my cycles and use an app. I feel crampy around the time I think is ovulation and sure enough my period follows 14/15 days later. I think I might have ovulated earlier than expected this cycle because I felt cramps in my tummy and other pms symptoms on cycle day 7 which is far too early for me. Maybe I ovulated a day or two after that. Or maybe not at all.

If you're still testing negative at this stage, it's likely just an unusually late period. They are unusual, but they do happen.

I would try to relax and forget about it for now. If still no period in 5-7 days, test again. But otherwise, just assume you are having a late period. Constantly questioning whether you are pregnant and getting negative tests will only drive you crazy.

Thank you for your lovely message. I read and it's happened to be that stress can delay a period. I've been under considerable stress all year. It's on and off stress. I've gone through stuff that nobody should have to. I noticed with this cycles earlier in the year that I was sometimes 2/3 days late. Looking back on the cycle sure enough the mid way mark around ovulation, I was dealing with pure rubbish flung in my face. I wasn't particularly stressed this cycle tough but maybe with all the stress over the year it's thrown my cycle out of whack completely.
