what is going on with people wearing glasses ? why do such a lot of people wear glasses that dont suit them at all? - it seems sometime people who are not the best looking further enhance their unfortunate looks bay wearing totally unflattering glasses with big black frames or some weird extraordinary shapes ! - if its the case that these people who works in opticians are helping them pick the frames by saying "these ones suit ye" - then they need to have their eyes tested too and then there are some poor unfortunate kids where the parents must pick out frames for their kids and again - hideous ones that dont match the kids faces at all - God in my school as I were growing up if you had a hideous heavy looking framed glasses or those ones with springy things that fitted over your ears you were beat up over it LOL :)

we need a campaign - you now that programme "What to wear" - we need a specialist to go around ireland and pick out proper frames suited to peoples faces to make them look prettier .. not uglier LOL :)

But half of the lads from rural Ireland still wear them with slip on brown shoes on a big night out in 'de big schmoke'

I wear glasses as a medical requirement. I couldn't give a rats if I look good in them not. Years of non stop masturbation has left me with a serious medical condition that you are trivilaising, shame on you.
BTW the opticians always have people on hand to help buy frames that suit but by some odd anomaly the most expensive ones always seem to be the best. Another rort to add to the list.I'll pick my own frames thanks love:p

Andy I think you need a hobby if your concerned about what glasses do or don't suit other people.

I hate picking out glasses. Even worse when they try to offer advice or offer to take photos. Just leave me alone ffs

But you seem to be unnecessarily concerned about other people's style choices...

I'm going to guess you, or most of the people here aren't part of the target audience, it's likely a fashion thing. Or you are the target and it's being done to annoy you

Andy's threads are always a good break from the endless cycle of repetitive threads that otherwise constitutes AH. You never know what topic he's picked out for us today

I remember seeing kids getting bullied for having the cheapest, thus, least flattering frames.

The whole idea of you complaining about adults choosing frames that you think don't suit them is the same mentality.

What ****ing concern of yours is it what glasses other people wear?

We need a campaign, a specialist. Maybe we need to just let people be and mind our own business LOL.

you see I am a bit of a psychologist - and I reckon some people pick the frames because they DO care about what other people think about what they wear and look like - otherwise people would just go for the most comfortable practical glasses and wouldnt worry about the design

Its like when people go "dont take my photograph!" .. but then hang around because they want their photo taken or get annoyed if they are not in a photograph :)

shame we are entering a world where people use the "its no concern of yours yada yada " and "keep your opinions to yourself world" - we didnt have that years ago and people could express themselves more freely

They have a name for those people - busy bodies. :pac:

The frames always look better in the shop then you get them home and you're like... oh.....

Or if you don't use contacts you have to put glasses on and try and decide through squinty myopic eyes whether the frames you have on suit you.

In Specsavers they also nicely slap a sticker on the lens where you look through so you've to decide again if the frame is nice but you're thrown off by the crap in the way.

You can ask staff but do they really give a sh*t or just want to sell you glasses and get you out the door so they can go back to gossiping about last weekend.

I remember those eastern health board glasses, frame looked like it was made from an old thin silver clothes hanger (a bit like the ones the main guy wears in breaking bad)....

Conor mcgregor wears a pair of them once or twice and now all of a sudden they're popular lol

There's a load of guides to picking the right glassed for your face shape but how do you find out what shape face you have? Heart-shaped, oval etc? Nightmare.

Those guides never have potato shaped head so aren't much use in Ireland.

Try them on before you go.Most have a website where you take a picture of yourself with your webcam and can "virtually" try on any pair on their website :)

In fairness in Specsavers they're quite good at matching the style to your face profile.

It's sunglasses that's worse, especially those oversized "I saw a Celeb wear these so I'm doing it" or lads with cheap Aviators that are wonky.

The hot salesgirl told me I looked great in all of them and I believe her. Someday she will be my wife.

Ahem, speak for yourself. I looked like Robin Gibb......does now.

Specsavers are very good at guiding you, plus not being a fashion victim helps. I did try on a pair of that were a yellow and red frames combo looked ridiculous on me the average person could not wear them unless they were an architect or worked in fashion or the like.

I think you'd appreciate me wearing ugly glasses instead of totalling your car because I can't fcuking see.

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

People often don't realise that clothes looking good on someone is very dependent on that person. Wearing a celebrity's clothes won't make you look good. Like skinny jeans - if you have no arse, then skinny jeans look ridiculous on you. Man or woman, you need a generous amount of arse to make skinny jeans look passable.

Glasses are the same. The thick, black round glasses might be in fashion, but you have to get the right shape glasses for your face. Shorthand is that you buy frames that look nothing like your face. So if you have a round face, you want square glasses. If you have a sqaure or pointy face, round glasses work for you. If you have a small face, then you'll get away with glasses that are slightly oversized. If you have a big head/face, then oversized glasses will look comical.

If you have a round face like Leonardo DiCaprio, then glasses from Will.I.Am will look stupid on you.

These things do make a difference. If Ms. Blasey Ford hadn't been wearing clown glasses at the US senate hearing, the USA wouldn't now have a former drunkard and general sleezeball on their supreme court.

Somebody is making an absolute mint from glasses. The cost way exceeds the product.

There is one company in Italy called Luxottica that has a near monopoly on the glasses industry.
