So, who would be up for one of these?
I know some people would say "Vrs" and "SUV" should not be on the same vehicle, but as a past Octavia vRS x3 owner, I quite like it, I suppose the retail on one of them will put paid to buying one. :D

I think it looks great, have no issue with the RS (it's only vRS in the UK due to a dispute with Ford) designation on an SUV but only being offered with a diesel is a huge let down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,594 ✭✭✭tossy

i presume at that bhp it's the Bi turbo tdi so plenty of scope for mapping.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,838 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

My plan is for my next car to be an Octavia vRS (second hand), but if I had the cash I would absolutely go for one of these.

Love the look of the standard Kodiaq, a neighbor has one and I give it an envious look every time I walk past.

Yeah, I understand the RS~vRS thing.
I suppose if petrol is the objective, then the Cupra Ateca would be the one,?
Though I much prefer the looks of the Kodiaq,
I also would be a bit "Old school" with petrol engine in an SUV would be not a great mix of things if MPG was important.

Maybe these newer engines would handle that situation much more efficiently.

Which model vRS would you go for?
It was the MK2 FL models I had and loved them,
Never did fall for the Mk3 looks.

How much is it compared to the Tiguan 240?

No idea of prices yet, But somewhere in the UK it was said that this would/could/should be coming in at just below entry level Q5
Which is cheaper than the Tig 240.
    I am thinking 50+K

I am surprised its diesel. Considering all off the stuff coming out now is petrol or hybrid.
Rumours go that next seat cupras might be hybrids and thats what I am really excited about.

Sporty suvs are not my thing. And this does nothing for me personally. Unfortunately market shifted from hatchbacks to suv/crossovers, so sporty version is made too.

I bet this thing will be very expensive.

How does this compare against the Kia Sorento GT? The engine will be faster for sure but specs would need to match too.

Honestly think this is quite a pointless car.

S0 RS goes from GTI equiv to R-Line then basically?

I just love blue, vRS blue nicest colour ever....

Love my petrol one, sounds deadly and keeps going.

    Not nitpicking or anything,
But the same could be said for the Octavia vRS diesel and the GTD Golf,
    Among many others.
The way I see it is, all these models have decent enough performance levels for Joe soap,
They are also stylish enough for members of the public that like the looks of them.
I bet they will sell very well which makes them the opposite of what you suggest.
Which in turn will make Skoda a very happy camp.

If it was a hybrid petrol with GTI bhp it would be interesting but another diesel.. nah.!

I can only assume a hybrid of some form will follow along the way the market is heading?
Especially as their will be a 300bhp Cupra Ateca along soon enough.

I've a Sorento, the GT is just a specline I think. they are all 200bhp. The VRs would eat it at 237bhp 0-62mph in 7 seconds flat and a top speed of 138mph.

    The Sorento is ...
    Top speed 127Mph
    0–62 9.00s
    Engine capacity 2,199cc
    Transmission Manual
    Engine Power - BHP 197bhp

Is the vRS brand with Skoda not just a standard family saloon with the higher spec engine that the better marque VAG equivalent variants already carry? e.g. the octavia vrs diesel had the same engine as the passat cc gt170 and A4/A5/A6.
Just always bemuses me why these models are considered performance or sporty in that context.

Bought an Octavia VRs diesel last year, and no, it is not sporty. It looks quite sporty when parked.

But 8 secs to 100 is quite quick for a family diesel hatch.

I think if we had better engine options here these would be a difficult sell. Passat 180hp and 220hp petrol in the UK for example, we're lucky to even get a DSG petrol model.

I don't know about the Kodiaq engines but it seems there's some VAG cars that could do with some more powerful engines, rather than paying the top end for performance models.

I agree to a point, though the RS 245bhp Octavia with diff is going to be quite sporty in fairness and will attract a buyer looking at Focus ST, Golf GTI PP, Leon Cupra etc

This Kodiaq RS is a bit odd, it’s basically just a twin turbo version of the current Sportline Kodiaq 190bhp 4*4 which is probably a step too far in terms of spec/ price for a Skoda - and I’m saying this as somebody who has a Superb Sportline. Id be shocked if anybody buys it and surprised if it’s less than 55k on the road

When did anybody see a Tiguan 240?

I get that. It looks good. Hence why we see so many R-Line Tiguan's around. I've driven a Tiguan a good few times (father has one), and in no way could it be deemed "sporty". It's like driving while perched on a bar stool. So I'd probably liken this effort to an R-Line Tiguan and not something that should wear a "vRS" badge... Not that the badge really matters I guess, given that most Skoda's with that badge are 170bhp diesels...

The standard Tiguan 150ps isn’t known for great handling, is 300ps not a bit mad? Are they in Ireland?

Funnily enough was looking at these, think it would be a great option after my current Octavia.
One thing I notice is I'm not in my usual high driving position having come from SUVs in the past.

Being able to find a high performance diesel with a good seating position would be great.

It would be quick, but I definitely wouldn't say "mad"

I know that 300 bhp sounds unruly but with a 4 cyl diesel power delivery in a car the size of the Kodiaq , I would say it just about gives it "respectable pace" as opposed to being "mad"

What would you see as the cut off point on this being a contender Vectra? 50k?
I could see it going another couple on top of that.

    Sportline dsg 190 4x4 is touching 50k
Wouldnt be surprised at 54K ?
    what are your thoughts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,808 ✭✭✭maddness

I don’t get it? If you choose a SUV it would seem that driving dynamics are not very important so why a performance SUV?

In saying that this Skoda is one of the better looking ones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 472 ✭✭Turbohymac

Being a suv I wouldn't like to test out the performance compared to the Octavia vrs. Top heavy wouldn't come near Octavia in roadholding .

I'm just thinking, at that price, wouldn't an Audi Allroad or Volvo Cross Country, while being a little bit less powerful have better handling (as they are high estates rather than low SUV) and be worth more second hand?

Most people would not need the extra off road of the Skoda, the jacked up Audi/Volvo would do for dirt lanes, fields, etc.

Haha, 300ps isn’t a problem in a large car but i do think it’s a bit mad to have that power in a car that understeers and rolls like a Tiguan in bends, it’s not a Cayenne!

Allroad A6 or V90 Cross Country must be closer to 70k than 50k though?

I think this is going to be a pricey motor - mid 50s which pushes it against a lot of tasty metal. With a few options you could hit 60 quite easily I’d say.

Can’t help but think if it had the 280tsi it would have been easier to justify. With the usual healthy discounts a 280 superb would give a nicer interior and dynamics for a lot less dosh.

The basic Audi A4 Allroad is €53k.......

The Audi would probably have more space inside also.

Spending 53k on a bog standard A4 All Road would actually make the Kodiaq look cheap. Unless you have an Audi measuring tape the Kodiaq will be the much bigger car too

I'll use the manufacturer websites tape measure. The A4 Avant is longer by a bit but a bit narrower (A4 Avant 4725mm X 1842mm Kodiaq 4697mm X 1882mm)

Both are VAG so both will need plenty of option ticking boxes

Edit - a bit in both cases is an inch or two...............

I could see mid 50s alright. VAGs SUV pricing seems to be "take the hatch, add 10k." and the nearest equivalent RS Octavia is early 40s and petrol. I know the Tiguan 240 should be pricier being a VW but it doesn't carry a "halo" badge.

I dunno, give it a couple of years when I'm looking to move again I could see the appeal of one.

    The thing is,
Some ( that I know of anyway ) VW dealers offer a decent enough discount,
Not sure Skoda would be offering the same % ?

Amazing that the Sportline with retail over 50k doesn’t have sat nav or heated seats

I think you were kind of attacking people with the post you made on the thread.
That was the feeling I got.

I also drive a car similar to this and think it's quite high performance so wouldn't take kindly to what you say.

No matter how you look at it, on a public road 184bhp is fast and 240bhp is astonishingly fast.

Is the Kodiaq not the size of a Q7 or X5? Tiguans and Atecas being mentioned on this thread a bit. A previous poster aluded to this earlier, but if Audi were selling a 240bhp Q7 it would not be considered fast or sporty. These things are massive.
