Toddler Tooth Extraction

My (almost) two year old had a fall and split one of his front teeth up to the root. Had him at the dentist this morning who has referred me to the HSE clinic tomorrow morning but has recommended that it's extracted under anesthetic.

If it's removed does that mean he'll be without a front tooth until he's 5/6 or will the adult teeth start to move down early? Heart is broken for the poor fella.

We have private health insurance, does anyone have experience of the public system for this kind of thing? Would we be better off paying the excess and going to the Hermitage? The dentist we saw didn't think so....

Would love to hear of similar situations or any advice...

Medical insurance will not pay for a private peads dentist, but might pay for the GA in ther hermatage, best ring there and see. Yeah he will be without a tooth until he is 6 or so, but its not uncommon. I feel your pain, happened my own daughter and I am a dentist so it was terrible.
