Stuck on reboot screen

Hi, my laptop froze the other day and I ended up having to power it off. When I went to turn it back on the Dell logo comes up but the next screen comes up with - No boot device found. Press any key to reboot the machine. When I press any key it goes back to the same message. Loop after loop. I’ve tried F2 and F12 on start up but I still end up at same message. Is my hd totally fecked? Can I do anything?

Do you have any usb drives plugged in?

Sometimes it picks those up first in the boot sequence.

I think it's F11 to get in to Safe Mode, but you could also try to fixMBR using a live linux disk (like ubuntu).

Oh, also found this link which goes through a repair using a Windows 10 installation if you want to try that (if it's running windows 10).

Thanks for your reply. Tried F11 just in case but no good either. No usbs attached. Had seen that link but I’m not going to chance going at the internal components. Think I’ll have to visit a repair shop ðŸ˜

If you go into the bios, is the hard drive detected? Likely just a dead drive.

Thanks TerrorFirmer. I can’t get passed the initial screen after the dell logo. Tried F2 and F12 continuously after power up but I always end up on the same screen.

Yep. This is the most likely reason.

What Dell is this? Do you have a model number, I'm pretty sure it should be F2 you need to hit. I can't understand why it hasn't worked for you already though. I would have recommended what you've already tried, and just press F2 again and again immediately after you power on.

I can’t find the model on it. I have even opened it to see if there’s a model number on the inside to no avail ðŸ˜

Btw I check the hard drive convection was in properly and seems to be. I’d say hard drive damaged but I’d still expect to Be able to access diagnostics

You should still be able to access the BIOS. Either you are not hitting the correct key to access the BIOS, or maybe something else is wrong too. But given the machine is attempting to boot from the main hard disk, that means the BIOS is working.

Is the an FN key? Have you tried pushing FN+F2? (Or FN+F12)... That's why I was curious to find out what machine it was. Usually they should say something like "Inspiron" on the outside, and there may even be a serial number on the bottom that would describe the system.

Thanks or your help. I’ll try the FN when I get home. No it’s gas an intel sticker and a GeForce sticker. I’m sure there was a sticker on it before but I’m not sure when it went missing. Very odd. Thanks again for your help.
