How to tighten stomach after weight loss

    Hi All
I need a few pointers to help me, I've lost 9 stone over the last 2 years I'm 6 ft 5 and currently weight about 14 stone problem is my stomach is still large, I have a 34" waist but my tummy is 43" chest is about 41"
For my weight/height I should be a lot thinner,
I have access to a gym but some weeks I might get in once others maybe 4 times, I do 10 mins cardio (rowing machine) to warm up 45 mins of different weight machines then finish with 15-20 mins on the cross trainer, I would do 10 mins of stretching, plank, crunches at the end, Its a small gym and its hard to get access to the weights as its full of lads lifting one weight that posting pics of themselves on twitter and the like for 20 minutes and then lifting it again,

Thing is its not really doing anything for me, I am keeping my weight off but I'm not building any muscle or tightening my tummy at all, I am very weak I see what the other guys in the gym are lifting but I can't do any where near that,

For example on the chest press I struggle to do 3 x 15 at 25kg and the seated leg press I can't do more that 3 x 15 at 60kg and its only a limited movement I just don't have the power in me to go really deep if that makes sense,

I've also tried T25 but I looked like a drunk at a disco and gave up as I don't have to balance to do it properly,

Anyone any ideas on how I can target my core, I know its hard to target one area but I'm very disappointed after a life changing weight loss to still struggle to find clothes that fits due to a very large overhanging tummy,

I can't offer advice because I don't have the knowledge but just wanted to say well done for loosing 9 stone. That's a great achievement.

maybe if you post up your typical diet, it might be part of the puzzle?

Probably worth investing in a personal trainer in a gym to give you guidance.

Is it skin or fat? You say your tummy is overhanging so it may be excess skin from your weight loss. And unfortunately if it is you won't get rid of it with exercise. That's tummy tuck territory.

The personal trainer idea is a great one though. A few sessions with a professional and a personalised plan is what you need. And maybe a better gym because that one sounds hopeless.

But my God, what incredible weight loss, that is utterly tremendous. There is literally nothing you can't do if you have managed to lose 9 stone already. A few tweaks and you will make the last few steps. Congratulations, that is some determination.

from what i have come across fasting or intermittent fasting is a good way of avoiding that issue. it is possible to lose large amounts of weight and not suffer the issue of excess skin.

By what mechanism would intermittent fasting decrease the likleyhood of saggy skin after fat-loss? Assuming the wekely calorie defecit from intermittent fasting was the same as a steady day-to-day calorie defecit?

you can take a spin through this article, it seems to cover the main points, the mechanism is Autophagy. Basically fasting puts the body into a cell recycling state and the excess skin is consumed by the body. There is a Canadian nephrologist Dr. Jason Fung who treats a lot of Type 2 individuals that would mostly be very overweight with a fasting protocol and he has not had to send his patients on to have flabby skin removed.

Thanks! never heard of autophagy. Always looked at IF as simply another way to hit a calorie defecit over a week.

I have lost a ball park similar amount - I would say be sure it is skin and not still fat. My saggy skin has been less saggy since I lost a bit more weight, albeit that loss was at slower rate over a longer period of time. I don't really strength train though.

The intermittent fasting seems to have potential rather than being proved though? That article even says some of the evidence is anecdotal.

Its an effect I ive only seen come up in interviews into but I’d imagine it hasn’t been well studied however if physicians report it from their practice work , then it would be worth looking into. I guess if you want a slightly crass example , take a look at concentration camp photos, their bodies have used the excess skin for fuel.
Its one of those what have you got to loose suggestions , time restricted eating ie eating in a 6 to 8 hours window is easy enough to do. Personally Ive not tried fasting for a whole day ie ~36 hours but I have done a 5 day fat fast which was interesting. Ill probably look into these things more next year as I find the whole concept intriguing.

Thanks for all the replies guys sorry for the late reply, I have sort of settled at the weight I am at currently and don't want to loose much more,

The Gym I use is in work so there is no trainer in it, Maybe I should join one and see what the recommend, I also think I have low levels of testosterone and that would make it hard for me to build muscle, Will have to get a blood test and see if that is the case,

Have you tried strengthening and core exercises before? Zumba, yoga, pilates be excellent.

The guys who are in the gym lifting very heavy are probably not doing 3 x 15. 😊 I second the personal trainer comment.
