Wasn't sure where to post this. Got no replies in both the rugby or GAA threads.

Sorry for starting a new thread on this (and mods feel free to close it if it's something that shouldn't be a thread) but I was just wondering if anyone here had ever suffered a broken scaphoid? I fractured mine back in May and it's still not healed. It took a bang of a football innocuously enough the other evening again and it's sorer than it's been in a while and I'm worried it's set me back a good bit. Anyone else be out of action for ages with the injury? I've been told it's in a very awkward area for surgery and it's naturally slow to heal because of little blood flow in that part of wrist, but it's coming up on four months soon so was just wondering, thanks.

Generally it depends on where exactly the scaphoid is broken. If you put it in a splint it should be healed by 4 months. If you aren't wearing any support it could well take up to 6 months to heal and obviously much longer if you're continuing to play sport.

They are notoriously slow healing injuries. If you're still in pain go see your doctor because it will only get worse.

Thanks for the reply. I was misdiagnosed at the beginning but was in a splint pretty much from the time it happened. I'm out of the splint for nearly 2 weeks and went back to astro last week (I had ankle surgery in June and was recommended to get back running). Took it handy but the ball hit my wrist near the end.

It's just a frustrating injury. I'm to get another scan in October if it's still bothering me. Which I'm guessing it will.
