All looking for one thing bank details. Why can't these be traced or stopped.

They are often spoofed numbers and often made from a different continent.

Forward me your IBAN and bic numbers and I will arrange to have a program installed which will block these calls

I don’t know anyone from Africa or India so I just don’t answer.

I know revenue wouldn't ring regarding anything to do with your personal details but I was surprised when the call started with an automated message spoken by an Irish person who then asked you to press 1 to be put through to an adviser. The Eir call was the same.

I had that Eir one this week. I just keep this type of caller on the line as long as possible, ask loads of questions, didder with numbers etc and eventually ask if they want me to keep wasting their time or do they think they can still steal my details if I keep going.

Had a missed call from Burundi.....

    +25716167700

It comes up on a German site for number search and it appears to be one of those scams where you're expected to return a missed call without checking the number first.

Thankfully I had been reading about it in the Nairobi News and had known not to return the call.....

Revenue will never call, I got a scam email from MyRos or whatever it’s called, I knew it couldn’t be real as it was 5 weeks since I asked the ffers to take the wife off emergency tax and it was all sorted but by the time they got back

Had the same happen earlier this year, but then it stopped. You just have to not ring back.

Think telecoms companies should be proactive in the area. What percentage of Irish calls are made to outside Europe each day? Must be absolutely tiny. If you want to ring India, or receive a call from Botswana, maybe an opt in service would be more beneficial to people.

The telecoms services will be rubbing there hands probably. Answer a call and lose all your credit buy more again. Win win for them is it not

I don't answer any call from any number I don't know unless I'm expecting a call. That's what my voice mail is for

Agree 100%.A couple of my friends are the same. The calls I am experiencing this week all came through my landline phone.

What is this landline you speak of?

I've been getting calls from 00443531696840 (and ignoring them) this week.
Seems legit with both UK and Irish area codes

I keep getting asked about the accident I had and that Im due some compensation

come on, we've all had an accident that we cant remember haven't we? :roll eyes:

funny, they are very insistent that I have had one and I could be "owed thousands"

    just me then :D

Beware, they are now buying "Skype to Go" numbers which look like Irish numbers hoping gullible people will fall for their scam

Surely with current technology the scammers should be able to hide their outgoing Burundi number and substitute it for an Irish mobile number if they're able to set up the sophisticated sounding credit drainer at the other end??

A nice friendly fella used to ring me regularly about my vindows not vorking properly.

Found out sometime later he was related to a prince who hadn't got a bank account who used to email me.

    Small world eh?

I had an Indian woman who called about my windows. I thanked her and said her timing was perfect as I had a problem. She said she could help. I then asked if she needed to call to the house to give me a price for sorting the issue but she said no, she could do it over the phone. I said I thought they'd have to assess my existing windows set up. No, can be done by phone. Then I asked if PVC or wood would be best and does it include double or triple glaze. She then seemed to get confused. This was followed by some rather choice language, when I asked if her mother was proud of the way she tries to defraud people. She hung up at this point.

I wonder is there actually many people who actually give them there details over the phone. It's been fairly well highlighted for a while now. The credit draining one is getting a lot more common

That Prince popped his clogs last month...

The cops found $96,000,000 in his spare bedroom when they broke into his palace... It seems that he's been trying for years, but he couldn't give it away....

Got a letter during the week telling me I’d won €815,000 in a lottery draw in Spain. Cost 80 cents for them to post the letter to me from Portugal. Been getting phone calls from a Dublin number too. How thick do they think people are.

I got a missed call from a Dublin number too. I called it back from another phone as id advertised something & thought it may be due to that.
The phone went to an automated message saying they'd answer my call in a few minutes. I've been on hold for 2 hours now but when they pick up I'll let you know what they wanted.

I got an automated female voice yesterday. I thought in my case it said Enet rather then eir.

The "speel" was that they had been trying to contact me a few times and that the internet would be disconnected in 24 hours if issue not resolved.

I was invited to press 1 to talk to a technician. I pressed the hang up button instead by hanging up the phone.

Got a text today from Bridge United telling me that training for U 10s is starting again next week. It was from the committee and informing me of the new training team. Is this another type of scam?

The last princes that I know of down there were killed in 1014 AD.

I'm in west Cork. No connections with Clare. No kids under 10 or otherwise. 086 number but didn't reply as no point. Quite possibly a genuine mistake. Then again could be some type of con to get me to reply.
I've been getting a text approx every 6 months for last few yrs from somebody and the text is following the same format. It's usually making arrangements for some meeting or social event and how someone will be late and to change times or some sh1te. They know my name but it's always spelt wrong. I never reply as I'm certain it's some type of scam.

I had a few recently. One from Mauritania and one from Madagascar. Still waiting to hear from Mozambique...

Some Indian crowd keep calling my dad's house phone informing him of a virus on his computer. My dad can barely operate his sky remote, let alone turn on a computer. Hates all technology. He keeps this crowd on the phone, taking the piss out of them until they get bored (and for some reason, he talks to foreigners in his impression of their accent).
