  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,380 ✭✭✭chuckles30

Hopefully I'll actually manange to get my hands on the Aldi wine one this year - missed out last year.  I picked up a Yankee one in a Debenhams promotion last year.

I only discovered it by accident last yr, thought it was a bit too good to be true! But I've used everything in it. And the kids move the little cardboard, so everyone's happy!

Was in Smyths with the kids yesterday (spending ther pocket money) & saw 2 Lego Advent Calendars, one a pure christmas one & the other a Star wars one. @ €28.88 a pop, not cheap!!

I bought a large wooden advent calendar from Fortnum and Mason a few years back, the thinking being that it will last a life time so will save $ over the long run. The first year we decided that we would put something in each window for each other, so I had day one, my OH day two etc. It was really cute for a few days but because stressful as we hadn't thought far ahead. In the end it was post its like walk the dog and clean up after it for a week etc.
    Beauty of a calendar though.

I really want the tall Yankee Candle one, it looks gorgeous, and seems to have decent candles in it:

    u7UnsHn.jpg?1

but I'm not convinced I could justify spending that amount on it. I reckon I'll go for the fold out one.

The lego advent calendars are out now, too. I saw them in the art and hobby shop in Dundrum. They're in Smyths as well, seems to be a bit cheaper than last year, I think I paid about €30 last year.

That tall Yankee one is lovely, but like you I couldn't justify the price.....plus I already have the wick trimmer and the puffer, so I feel I would be paying for them again and really you only need one of each

That ones a beaut! But I cant find it online, though the chances I will be given the green light to buy it are slim. I still have candles from the past two years.

After all my whining about how good QS (and real trees) I'm actually not mad about chocolate (and I have a fake tree). But jellies......drool. Haribo's advent calendar shall be bought.

I'm looking for an old-fashioned Advent calendar with pictures inside, guys, if you see any decent ones? I got one off Amazon last year - was a bit disappointing, lot of very similar images :(

And yes, I am that parent who doesn't let the kids have a sweetie Advent Calendar :p

Just looked up the ferrero advent calendar as my granny always bought my mam (her daughter in-law) a box for Christmas so it would be quite sentimental to her. €12 seems a bit steep though...decisions decisions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,217 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

You .might get it for about €8 - €10 in offer.
Be careful if Groupon Advent calendars. They can be more expensive.

Well, I suppose if anyone's ever been curious as to how many butt plugs you can fit into an advent calendar, now we know!

Slightly more boring than the above, but we bought our advent calendar in Hotel Chocolat this week.

That looks delish! I was given a box of their chocolates by my hubby and son when I came home from hospital after having my daughter and they were amazing. Amazing to the point that I'm not sure I posses the necessary restraint to limit myself to one every day, I'd probably eat that whole calendar on the 1st of December :o

I got two of the advent beauty calendars for myself, the Decleor one and the Latest in Beauty one. I missed both last year so am utterly thrilled. That should be about 500 euro of product for an outlay of 120 euro, if you can believe what they say. The Latest in Beauty one is gigantic really heavy :) I am opening a door on each a day, I am so excited with myself, like a child.

So far everything has been really good, bar maybe the lip exfoliant. I resolve to actually use the eye cream this year.

If I had the money I would by every beauty advent calendar going. But this is a good start regardless :)

Nice gift! I once ordered a Hotel Chocolat advent calendar online despite the ridiculous shipping free. Glad they're in Dublin now! Plus it was free because we had a voucher from an event we attended. Free chocolate is best chocolate.

The only issue is that we'll be sharing it so it's one chocolate every second day.

My Bird & Blend tea advent calendar is now waiting for me with DPD today. Excited for it. Got it last year for the first time and loved it. Nice way to try out a number of the flavours without committing to a large amount.

Got the L'Occitane one last year but still working through some of the bits I got in it so think if I'm going to get a beauty calendar this year I'll go for a different one.

The Hotel Chocolate one looks good - I love their chocolate. Might have to look at that.

M&S definitely do children's Advent calendars, can't remember seeing ones with better quality chocolate, but I'm sure they must do. And if not, they should!
