Replacement windows uPVC vs Aluminium vs Timber

I'm replacing old timber windows. I've received a quote for uPVC, Aluminium and Laminated & Engineered Pine Finger Jointed. I'd prefer to go with Aluminium or timber as the frames are not as chunky as uPVC. Any thoughts on Laminated & Engineered Pine Finger Jointed? My architect is recommending them but soft wood frames…
