I am looking for 4 new tyres and came across the Yeada YDA 226. Chinese make.. Rated B for wet driving conditions, 72 dB. Are these ditch seekers or acceptable?

    Never heard of them.
Suggest you go with a known brand, like Uniroyal

Personally I would definitely trust my families life to "Farroad-Shandong Fengyuan Tire Manufacturing Co.,Ltd." budget brand as opposed to a little bit extra for Uniroyal,etc....(Joke)

    Fred flinstone recommends them.

Only decent budget brand I now use is sonar. Lots of others that have very hard compound and wear very well but no roadholding in the rain..for an extra tenner over the absolute cheapest of cheap you can get up to sonar and it makes all the difference between staying safely between the ditches or visiting some field without using the gate...you get what you pay for but some of those really cheap tyres shouldn't be sold for Irish weather and road conditions.. what ye buy cheap could be mighty costly down the road

All very funny, but these Yeada tyres are not super cheap. There are tyres out there half the price again. I am just wondering because the rating for wet roads is B. Does that mean anything?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 472 ✭✭Turbohymac

Well if there not super cheap and no a lot known about them ..well I'd then go for a branded tyre..firestone.goodyear. pirelli etc.. any dealer selling them will naturally promote their own brand but it's your vehicle..your insurance etc.. I always pay more for branded tyres for my wife's car..but properly load rated sonar tyres keeps my own van very happy

Yea da car is in da ditch over them.

The thing to remember is these Chinese tyres have a much much bigger margin of profit compared to a recognised brand.Tyre shops will tell you they are superb.

Not exactly a high tech tread pattern is there?

If they're not cheap then why on earth would you not just buy a well known brand for a few quid more. The only semi-logical reason to buy spurious tyres is the price.

    How cheap are they?

How much are they charging for them?

Here is Hankook for €102 a corner:
    https://www.tyreleader.ie/car-tyres/hankook/ventus-v12-evo2-k120/245-40-zr18-97y-750704

    Vredestein for €107 a corner:
    https://www.tyreleader.ie/car-tyres/vredestein/ultrac-satin/245-40-zr18-97y-644803

    Uniroyal for €106 a corner:
    https://www.tyreleader.ie/car-tyres/uniroyal/rainsport-3/245-40-r18-93y-132201

Allow about €15 per wheel to have them fitted locally and the old ones disposed.

They're a budget tyre, maybe on the upper end of it but still a budget tyre.
Ive been told grip is decent enough but How long you get out of them is the big factor.
I wouldnt be goin spending big money on them though.

Havent come across them actually. Who is selling them ?
Probably a fine tyre, but all depends on the price on whether they are good value or not.

Surprised it took nearly 2 pages before the predictable arrived.

I'd recommend Kormoran if you really have to go budget, €55 fitted up my way. After that the same place does Good Year for €75 fitted if you have the budget. This is based on a 205/55 16 size.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

The OPs size is a bit less common!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 472 ✭✭Turbohymac

Jesus I'd just go with becent branded ones...BAZZ 26. Seems to have found good value.. there you're only contact with the road. But some only see price. Fairly false economy there lads..

I had assumed, perhaps naively, that the EU? tests (on the sticker), for handling in the wet, fuel economy and noise were a decent way to compare tyres. Do people here not trust them? Are they not independent?

It's manufacturers testing from what I remember. So not too sure how it translates to on the road performance.

With small and unknown manufacturers in China I would be worried about quality of production itself, not just pattern design and rubber compound.

Really? I had assumed, because of the EU symbol mainly, that it would be third-party independent testing. If what you say is true and the manufacturers are conducting their own testing I would be hesitant to trust the ratings.

Sure, but what exactly are they testing. Is it flat braking performance. I've been on ditchfinders before, they braked fine but had real problems with takeoff and roundabouts.

    It’s self declared AFAIK.

There's not a single english (or german/spanish/whatever) review or article on Yeada tyres on the web. That's your answer right there. You have no idea what you're buying with them (they might be fantastic, they might be crap).

Hi navi.. I wouldn't read too much into the noise/rain indicators on the tyres but surely you're not thinking that budget back street Chinese tyres will compete as good as any branded tyres. If the op. Isn't happy paying around100 euros per tyre what price is he paying for the Chinese ones.. he states that there a good bit up from budget prices tyres. But what is cheap or expensive to him ??? Next. He'll be buying those part worn snowtyres.. as before cheap China v branded with superior quality control . Better thread pattern. Etc. Etc.. I pay 80 each for sonar van tyres . If they were any cheaper I'd be getting worried .. if ye can't afford basic running costs buy a bicycle. .

No. I'm not suggesting they are the same quality as branded. My query was really about the testing and certification. I think now that it may in fact be misleading consumers into thinking the tyres are equivalent. Thanks to all for clarifying it for me.

I would recommend Nexen tyres. A good medium priced range brand (not Chinese) which scores highly in test ratings - on a par with the so called premiums. I have used them myself for a number of years and find them durable with excellent grip in all weather conditions with little noise (69db avg.).

Last year I bought the car with Yeada on it (summer tyres). And let me tell you, they are the crappiest tyres I've ever used. The B rating on wet roads is nothing but a lie. You're basically sliding instead of braking. Just my two cents

Except you're not basically sliding instead of braking though are you? That would really would be a lie.
You have been driving for a year on tyres that slide when you brake ? That would be a lie too. Of course, if it were true, it would indicate consistent, deliberate, dangerous driving. But thats probably not the case. So looks more like a lie.
