What's the logic behind this? Couple of refugees were discovered in a truck in Laois. They jumped out and ran away. According to this article they're not being searched for? Am I missing something or is this utter madness..

It's Laois, they'll hand themselves in soon enough.

Ha. There in for a shock. Probably hide in another truck to escape Laois.

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

The gardai have more important issues to be dealing with, like deciding who is going to nip down the chipper for the tae.

If you really cared, you'd be out searching for them yourself.

Soon as I've had my dinner, I'll be out there, accosting anyone who looks a bit, you know, foreign. Who's with me?

Good luck to them in the post apocalyptic wasteland of Laois...

    Hyperbole much?

One would imagine there are no specific searches because the people will surface quickly as they are unlikely to know anyone.

Maybe they've crossed the border already.

In Portlaoise they called to the address of a woman who had no TV license and took her to Mountjoy womens prison. It was the wrong person they arrested!

Surely this is a case where the alert system on Facebuke should be used to find these people, who in the jaysus knows who they are or what history they have?

Would you not have to have a photo of them for the alert to be of any use?

Could there be an opening for a new quango or government funded charity to help these guys settle in Ireland? Help with housing them ,with family reunification over here etc etc.
No point bothering with border control apparently!

OP seeing as there were 5 of them and I’m guessing the driver of the truck wouldn’t have been able to give a very accurate description of them so the Gardai should round up all groups of 5 foreign nationals they see and question them in case it’s them...would that satisfy you?

Or would you rather their resources are wasted on searching for 5 people of unknown identity who could be anywhere and most likely have split up to avoid detection.

And to answer your last question, yes you are missing something...common sense.

I'm no Garda but I have watched a few episodes of The Bill and Bergarac over the years, first thing I would do is appeal for dashcam footage from any vehicle which was in The Rock area outside Mountmellick, I'd then issue an alert to all radio stations in the area to be on the look out for 5 people. I suppose being Ireland they will seek dashcam footage of the area on Septembers edition of Crimecall.

    The Rock, outside Mountmellick.

No surprise. Leo Varadkar is weak on crime, weak on border controls, just weak in general. Time for him to resign.

Bergerac was way ahead of its time if they had dash cam appeals considering it ended in the early 90’s!!!

Sure what could go wrong.

Anyone remember sometime back some of our boys in blue encountered an illegal immigrant to our shores ?

And in that case they actually stood face to face with him and just advised him to make his way to Dublin.
Sadly he didn't just fook off rather than have some poor family of a legal immigrant pay the ultimate price.

But shure nothing like that can ever happen in little special old Ireland.

I am not allowed discuss …

Must admit the story immediately got me thinking...if I was them where would I race off to, what would I eat, where would I sleep? Did they stick together or do they have smartphones and exchanged numbers in the truck to split up and meet later? Will they be robbing clothes off lines or crocs from doorsteps if their shoes and gear gets wet as they roam the bogs? Eggs and spuds from homesteads? Sleeping in ruined cottages? Hunting sheep? I reckon if they make a week in the wilds of Laois they should be considered honorary Irish and given compassionate leave to stay. And I should be given the film rights to their story.

It seems that our Gardaí are psychic

From the Leinster Express in the link above -

A Laois Garda spokesperson has confirmed to the Leinster Express that the men are "no threat to anyone".

How can they say this ?

The Gardaí do not know who these people are , where they are from , if they are in good or poor health or where they are now .

They may well find all that a great deal better than where they have come from.

Jaysus you get very defensive. Maybe it's just me but I'm not particularly happy about 5 people like that wandering the countryside. But sure leave them off, and the next truck, and the next truck.

    How many has there been?
