Yep it's the one I've had my eye on for a while. Signed up a good while ago. Ran it once before and you won't get flatter

Good race alright. Flat, out and back route. Slight incline on the last 500m but nothing apart from that.

I stayed at Inisfree B&B last time. Good location but couldn't use the shower etc afterwards so not great from that point of view. The hotel in the town allows you to use the pool, showers, etc for €5 if you need that. The race is very well organised and has a good atmosphere. I'd recommend it!

    It is the P v A pre-Wedding smackdown.

He bet me on Sunday in the 10km but another 61 days to improve.

    Who is in?

I'm in, unless I get hobbled/sabotaged in the meantime.

I am in. Entered it last May when i found out its on a week later. Staying in the hotel, family coming down. My 'A' race for the year.

Just checked my email there, I entered it back in April, maybe I'm a bit too eager ;)

I’m in, and so is the mrs, who has been training well on Hanson HM schedule so far.

It’s my HM PB race from last year. This year I’ll be doing it off very little specific training but hope to do well nevertheless.

Super course. If running in one of the pace groups be aware that with narrow roads it can be easy to get the heels clipped. Will settle down though. Last year’s pacers were very good (or at least the 95 ones were).

    Looking forward to it.

Following the hanson plan myself. The 6 mile tempo at hm pace is mind draining.

Entered it on Friday, not done anything longer than 10K this year, feel in the mood for a few longer runs now. It's 35 minutes by bus so will travel on the day.

It sure is... but not til next week  ?? I've found a local 10k 'fun run' to help me through it...

Looking forward to Charleville, really enjoyed the race last year, very well organised.

The women's tshirts were TINY last year and they are recommending go 1-2 sizes larger than you normally would.

I'm in and looking forward to improving my result from last year.

For those looking to do a 10k beforehand the Curraghchase 10km on Sunday 19th August is a great run over a challenging course.

I have a mental block about tempo Thursdays... it’s on Saturday in Donegal if that helps.

A little too far for a tempo. But thanks

Signed up for this months ago with the early bird offer.

It was meant to be my second half but I injured my achilles three months ago and missed Run Killarney the weekend just gone by.

Hoping to be able to get around ok for this one!

I'm in. God knows why but I am.

Great race to be fair and hard to get isolated anywhere on the course with the depth of the field so if there's anywhere to run a fast one, it's there.

    30 days now!

Has anybody received any info on number collection or anything like that?

On the website here. Last year you could pick up the race number the night before too, up to around 6 I believe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,583 ✭✭✭Swashbuckler

Cheers D. Hopefully there's a pickup the night before. I have a baby to coordinate in the mix of all this. Haha

Signed up for this last minute about two weeks ago. Haven't done any running since Dingle half last month. Hoping that the fitness from that will get me through! Would love to break 1.55 but with lack of training I can't see it happening

    From Website-

Race numbers will be posted in advance of race day. It is critical you enter your name and address correctly as we cannot be held responsible for numbers not received as a result of an incorrect postal address entered on the registration form.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,595 ✭✭✭✭Murph_D

Hmm. Could’ve sworn we picked up the bibs on site last time. Certainly picked up the shirt etc in the GAA club!

Yeah, number collection was on race morning last year (possibly evening before also?), still hoping to get it in the post next week, would mean an extra few minutes in bed!!

Yup collected it on the day. Everything is fairly close together so no huge treks involved.

Heading down the sat afternoon myself with family. Not sure what kind of run I will have but I given up caring :)

Number arrived this morning in the post.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,583 ✭✭✭Swashbuckler

Meant to post on here yesterday evening - saw on their news feed on Facebook that all numbers are posted but you have to collect the tshirt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,433 ✭✭✭sideswipe

Got mine too, few minutes extra in bed- now if that storm that's threatening for sunday would just **** off!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,864 ✭✭✭✭average_runner

"SUNDAY ... Some guidance is showing the wind gradient becoming very strong by early Sunday morning to about mid-day with potential for gusts to 120 km/hr. This situation will need to be watched, part of the energy for the low comes from former hurricane Florence although that circulation is not fully absorbed and remains further back in the central Atlantic. At the least, it should be a windy and showery day with some clearing later, highs near 14 C."

If this happens I think we might have a problem!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,053 ✭✭✭opus

Yikes didn't hear about the weather warning, didn't need to know that :) I'd vague plans to try a bit harder than normal on Sunday but if it means battling a storm then I'll put that idea on hold I think.

Number arrived for me as well this morning.

On a positive note- if there is a storm it'll make half the race much easier- we'll be blown out to Kilmallock and then all you need to do is tuck in behind a big group for a nice sheltered run back to Charleville!

We might not make it back looking at the weather models

Well they’ve opened a thread on the weather forum about Sunday. I’m going to remain optimistic and predict perfect conditions on Sunday morning with the storm arriving later in the day as I sit down at home, rain lashing the windows as I enjoy a PB beer!

Please god, just let us get home to Dublin before it hits.

Got my number though. Is there a risk it could be cancelled?

If they start dishing out Orange warnings from the day before the organisers will have a decision to make, 1400 runners running on a fully tree lined route in high winds would be risky. RTE lunch time weather spoke about 'potential' for Sunday so it seems it will be all down to the timing.

Would need to know by Friday if its cancelled, as otherwise it will cost me a good bit of money with the hotel cost!!

Can't see it being called 2 days out tbh. Still a long way to go, that storm could be off to the south or north by then hopefully. Either way you'll be able to make a better call by Friday when the forecast range is more reliable.

Not looking so bad for Sunday judging by latest met.ie forecast. In fact a bit a drizzle will be welcomed I suspect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 379 ✭✭mister paul

MET Éireann themselves are unsure about the weather for Sunday

    From: https://www.met.ie/update-on-atlantic-storms-near-ireland
    Possible Storm this Weekend
The weather remains changeable and disturbed for the coming weekend and there is potential for another storm to form late Saturday into Sunday. The track of the depression is uncertain at this stage and both Met Éireann and the UK Met Office are monitoring developments. Further updates and relevant warnings will be issued as appropriate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,595 ✭✭✭✭Murph_D

The notorious yr.no is more optimistic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,864 ✭✭✭✭average_runner

Looks like it be cold anyhow. Big difference to the summer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,433 ✭✭✭sideswipe

Don't mind cold, this is the time of year I start to enjoy races more. Every race I have done since London in April has been ranged between warm/humid and roasting. Seems the forecasters can't get a real handle on what Sunday has in store yet.

Why do they bother posting out numbers and then insist t-shirts are collected before the race? Surly it makes more sense to hand them out afterwards.
