Was going to take a trip down there some evening for sunset , I was wondering is can it be accessed or is it private property ?

It's Private property controlled by the Golf Club (Security on the gate!), no harm in phoning in advance and asking for permission though....

Thanks for that information , don't think it would be worth the hassle though, it's very disappointing that private company's can control access to national landmarks ,

They were supposed to allow public access but they don't.
You won't get access without prior appointment and proof of insurance. They probably still won't give you access though.
It's fairly tightly controlled access wise, I took a look before to see if there was a way in and it didn't seem easy at all.

Tip : sign up for a game of golf, late tee time, hide in a bunker and......wait for the perfect moment ;)

You could contact Free the Old Head of Kinsale but they don't seem too active now.

The lighthouse has open days twice annually which are very popular so keep an eye on www.kinsale.ie for details.

Last event was in May however they have also have tours in August.

Haha I'd be the one to get caught in the barbed wire and have to get rescued by security

Thanks very much for the info, but the times of 10-5 would really suit what I'm looking for, ideally sunrise or sunset, but thanks for taking the time to find that information

No problem. I'd contact Irish lights as I they will get you past the main gate if you want to take photos. I know someone there if you have no luck (pm me).
