In Hamilton country who won four of the last five GPs here. Temperatures might be higher than expected as the heatwave also hits there, at least I guess. On the other hand the tyres already have been changed to the new design.

I think one of the Mercedes team cars will retire on Sunday.

Article on sky sports saying might be grid penalties for both mercs. Bottas had gearbox hydraulics failure.

I was just thinking that a week is not really a lot of time to solve reliability issues.

Was wondering about this when the tyre choices came out.

Enjoy the race. There'll be lots of walking. Where's your seat? Last time I was there was in 2008 and I was at hanger straight before the circuit revamp and grid being relocated.

We love hearing boardsies attending a race so post some pics for us if you can please.

Ferrari are bringing a new floor and assuming it works, I kind of fancy them to win. Their rear suspension has been revamped to deal with the new rubber that the Pirelli created to suit Mercedes supposedly reduce blistering.

James Alison said the fact that both cars suffered an abnormal shutdown in the race could create further problems in itself. They were going over both cars with a fine tooth comb

Grosjean lost it at Turn 1 and ended up in the barrier, session over for him. That's one of the corners they can take with DRS open now with the third zone added for this year.

Edit: he said the track was so bumpy he couldn't hit the button to turn off the DRS and lost the backend. Sooooo, who's getting that Haas seat season ?

Maybe Alonso and Grosjean could swap seats. Then Grosjean can drive around at the back in the Mclaren and Alonso can get the Haas up near the front maybe even win a race or two in it.

Grosjean has had a good few trouble free and decent years now, since his ‘dark era’. This year has been an absolute stinker for him though, I’m annoyed at him for making that fool Magnussen look good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,904 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

The crash was bad enough they've had to change the chassis so Grosjean won't be taking part in FP2 either.

Max off at Luffield, lost the back end coming out of the corner and clipped the rear right off the wall. Damage done, red flag.

Big accident for Hartley, suspension failure when he hit the brakes

Fortunately he sounds and looks ok

Suspension on left side just twisted up and destroyed itself. Tyre wall did good job stopping the car

Well he's lucky to walk away from the crash

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,904 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

That was a very nasty accident alright, suspension just crumpled and disintegrated. Great that he was up and out of the car, hopefully no after effects and he can race as normal. Assume the car is destroyed and he won't be in qualy regardless

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,681 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

Gasly not being sent out again. I guess they they need to figure out what problem was. Wonder will they race this weekend

Hulkenburg being called into the garage but they wouldn't tell him why, wonder what that's about

Watch any of the onboard shots it's clearly visible just how bumpy the surface is. Wonder if that might have exacerbated a structural flaw in Hartley's suspension somehow?

Yeah, the onboard of the impact and how far the car went in was pretty scary
I know that F1 has moved on and that it's unworkable under the new regulations for components and how much more complex the modern cars are from a manufacturing point of view, but I sometimes miss the days of having the option the spare car when thing like that happen.

There's something working well for the Ferrari engine. Leclerc faster than both Haas! All the Renault powered cars seem to be struggling. And the same for the Merc customer teams

Great interview with Toto Wolf by Lee McKenzie on C4 right now.

Lee McKenzie is hot too. :pac: Shame she's leaving the sport. :(

That bit about Susie Wolff as a team boss: she’s taking over the reins at the Venturi Formula E team, where Felipe Massa will be one of her drivers when the season starts in December.

If you hearing this on very low volume; you will probably struggle to hear this while on C4. Eddie Jordan is right though about the future of McClaren & Williams in F1 being in a period of hell. Jenson Button is seen in the background of the McClaren Team principal on C4. Jenson is holding a Sky microphone.

Wow, epic piece there from EJ.

Could McLarens problems be traced back to the amount of funding their road car division is getting similar to Ferrari for the last few years?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,904 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Good piece from EJ alright, fair dues to Zak Brown he faced some tough questions on the back of it and thought he answered well.

Claire Williams on the other hand seemed a bit defensive. She came across as condescending or something.

I had watched EJ's piece on C4 HD. The sound was OK; but it wasn't the best.

If you had watched it on C4 SD. You only had to turn up the volume way up because at that point all you could have heard from EJ was mumbling.

Could be a part of it but just listening to EJ's piece there, having watched the doc from last season and even what Max just said in this episode about Honda/McLaren it is mainly shocking management.

Hartley is definitely not going out on qualifying today after his heavy crash earlier.

So Brendan Harley is not going to be taking part in qualifying and the FIA have told Toro Rosso to change all the front suspension of Pierre Gaslys car. H might miss the first ten minutes. Depends how long it takes the team to rebuild the front suspension on his car.

Also Sebastian Vettel had a sore neck in FP3 that's why he only done 8 laps that seison. He clicked his neck.

    Well done Stroll.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,810 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

The track temperature is still very high today at 51 Celsius. Qualifying without a doubt is going to be tough today in that heat on the tires.

I didn't know that Vettel clicked his neck. He is still going out onto Q1. I hope he does well today after that debacle.

Gasly's car is vibrating out on the track. I hope that there are no problems for him later.

    Stroll's out already. Sesison stopped.

She avoided answering the finance question which is fair enough but if martini are going they will have a very bare car next year
