    I'm going into my 4th year, but I'd advise you if you don't feel confident in Java or programming you should probably do first year. I'm not sure what your experience was before, but by talking to some guys who did back to school schemes - they said they wouldn't have been able for straight into second year and those who did go into 2nd ended up dropping out or getting low grades.

    College is pretty easy to talk to people in the labs. Just don't be shy, unlike me. You can view the timetables on the website, just go to student login and look for the code, their is no password.
