Does a convertible even make sense in Ireland? Was different when we used to actually have Summers but now you'd probably get to drive with the top down maybe 10 days a year?

You can normally drive with the hood down, even in the rain, as long as you do not stop. :)

Also, get a soft top you can put up from the drivers seat, like the MX5.

Of course, you just need to drive fast enough to out run the rain

Why were convertibles popping up everywhere from 2007 to 2010, albeit tin drop tops such as Focus, Astra, Eos, 307cc, 206cc and Megane Convertible??

Funny how none of the above have convertibles anymore but SUV equivalents more likely.

    They did not sell well.

Fashion changed, and austerity made those with cash not to be frivolous, or not to be ostentatious. Keep the cash in the Jacobs biscuit tin under the bed.

I havn't seen a mk1 RS Focus for sale in years!

Them MK1 RS's aren't that good performance wise by today's standards. But that one does look clean and on UK plates as well I think.

UK (NI) plates so vrt could be hefty.

It is one for enthusiast that's certain. Still quick car, but compared to some modern turbo diesels saloons it isn't ground breaking.

Definitely more fun than 2.0 diesel A4 anyway.

Wonder how expensive can it be when it comes to maintenance. Does it share suspension parts with any more common Ford of that era?
Or is it completely separate line meaning big money for everything?

VRT is €1859(I think that includes NOX, but not sure)

I think the RS model has completely different running gear than the rest of MK 1 Focus'.

There was a MK1 for sale this year that got slated in this very thread, by JPS Car Sales.

A really late Escort registered in 2001:

The Focus that actually superseded it had been on sale since 1998.

I've always loved Fords especially of that era but will admit that VAG and Honda certainly put them in their place in the early 00s when it came to hot hatch's. Even today I don't think Ford ever gained back the cult following for any of the fast Focus models that they had with the older Cosworths. The Fiesta maybe but certainly not the Focus.

That's a nice car. The best thing about it is it's the kind of a
swap you might get away with not declaring. Still a 1.6 Corolla.

Cringe. Looks to be the lowest powered diesel version too. Says 218bhp but they came in 204bhp or 272bhp. Or 313 BiTdi which it's definitely not.

Who wraps a car then puts it up for sale. I’d have serious questions about the condition of the paint under the wrap. Why would you do that?

Could be just testin de water.

    Now that's embarrasing.

How many BHP does your RS7 have?

Em...not enough to pull the skin off a sausage.

I suppose at least it's 3.0 litre and not the 2.0 litre but yeah it's shameful.

Fairly sure the 3.0 diesel is the base spec in these. I think they're a beautiful car with the nicest interior design of the era, but putting RS badges on it makes it very silly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 51,142 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Yeah, I was thinking of the newer generation which has a 2.0 litre option.

A story from years ago someone went up to a chap who was putting diesel in his “M5” and just said “hey becareful there you’re putting diesel in it!” And he just replied with “It runs better on it”
