I bought ice creams for the staff in my building here. I'm not the employer though, just middle management

Nah, we asked could we wear more casual clothes similar to Friday instead of the shirt and tie and got nothing. Bit annoying as females in the office get away with wearing more casual clothes anyway and have more choice but for males its shirt, tie and suit pants.

Told to feck of to the beach yesterday afternoon. We did. Had to buy our own icecream though!

Free ice-cream for every one :D

Relaxed dress code, free cold bottled water and aircon is cranked to the top. I don't even notice the weather as my office has no windows so when I go outside for a smoke I get some blast of heat :p

If the ladies can wear skirts, nothing stopping the lads from wearing the same!

Just copy what the women are wearing.a nice summer dress would cool you right down

Was told with a wink ... if you work, you'll get paid

It's not just the dresses, although I do really want to see if I could pull it off in work :p. They get to wear short sleeved tops and stuff cos they tend to be a bit more dressy than a male version of same. Few in during the week with sleeveless tops. No male would get away with that in our work though

I'd love to see someone in that position dress identical to one of the women and see a manager try and call them up on it.
    Be absolute murder.

If some poor man has a heart attack in his suit and tie, I hope that company gets a comeuppance. Why any office worker needs to wear a suit every day is beyond me, it is madness.

Ours turned the air con OFF....true story!!! Handed out a couple of desk fans instead (which blow hot air as it gets hotter!)

Bus drivers in Sweden did similar,no shorts allowed so they all turned up in skirts.

My vision of hell... our office has people in shorts and flipflops (I would never wear em to work) from May on most years.

    Icecream!

We're allowed to open the windows.

Nothing at all, we still have to wear business clothes and there is no air conditioning.

Had an ice cream van after lunch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57 ✭✭galway321

Just got an email saying we can all leave at 12pm tomorrow - we normally leave at 4 on a Friday so happy days :)

Relaxed dress code and ice cream. We will likely be sent home after lunch tomorrow but that's more down to it being the last day of the 1/4 and as a business we've smashed our target.

If mine got ice cream for us, some fecker would put in an FOI and write a piece in a national newspaper over how we wasted money :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,869 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Ice creams for us plus I'm sat in the direct line of fire for the AC

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,094 ✭✭✭Ohmeha

My employer and all my management have total contempt to their staff so I suppose it's sound of them that they have not turned the air conditioning off and made us work late

My employer keeps pointing out that we are not allowed wear shorts, but everyday the lads come in wearing shorts

Nope, but can dress casually anyway as its civil service. Modern building with aircon and chilled water cooler etc. Have my hours worked up for flexi next month, so in at 8 and out the door at 4 tomorrow!

Flexitiming the f*ck out of this week. Out the door at 4 tuesday and yesterday and 3 today.

Going in early is a balls, but it's worth it to get out. Got ice cream yesterday and was reliably informed more tomorrow.

We had a BBQ laid on today along with ice-cream (and none of your Mr Whippy van stuff). Oh it was grand out in the outdoor seating area they just built, eating the burger, munching on salad and listening to music.

To be fair, all of this was planned before the fine weather arrived..

We were told our team meeting would be held outside yesterday so I chose to go to an hour long meeting on regulatory compliance instead. Too hot for me to stay outside for more than ten minutes.

My first law I would pass as president is shorts allowed at 25 degrees in all workplaces.

I estimate my work output is down 25% plus with the heat.

Work from home. Most days I'm just wearing shorts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 666 ✭✭✭collie0708

Our office all got a half day on Wednesday which was great.

I work with my dad. Today was the first day he wore shorts to work in 26 years. I knew he'd get it eventually!

I wear shorts, May to September at work.

The boss bought us magnum ice creams on Monday, he does that anytime there’s a nice day. As it’s predicted to be nice for the foreseeable future we’ve asked him to hold off on any more ice creams, one of us has holidays coming up and another has a wedding so we are trying to keep the waistlines in check!

Ah the sweat would burn it off no need to worry about calories this weather :D

We dont have air con and we cant open the windows as there is a waste disposal company in the same business park as us so the smell is horrendous :(
Just going to melt away here...

I'd say you're not the only one, I always start work at 7am so roads are normally dead quiet, except for the odd delivery van. This last week there's been a noticeable increase in early morning traffic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,504 ✭✭✭bennyineire

Normal hours are 8.30 to 5.30 with 1 hour lunch break.
Since Wednesday we have been coming in at 7, having a long morning break around 10 and then home for 2 (without lunch break).

Been extended until next week too, it's voluntary so we don't have too. But we are all doing it (12 of us)
