I hate the Paddy Power ads on during this World Cup

They are horrible. All about acting the mad lad and being great craic altogether. When the reality is all they do is take your money.

Now I like betting. I'll do a small one most days of this World Cup. But there feels like something really toxic or morally wrong with the way betting companies market themselves. It feels very deceptive and I don't like it.

So I want Paddy Powers marketing team to piss off. Please.

Some cheek from Paddy Power. Should know better than to advertise to you.

And just like that, their job is done

Gambler hates gambling ads. What are the odds?

Seriously what are the odds here? Time to make a bit of extra cash.

And as for those Maroon 5 pricks....

That ad really gets on my nerves, apart from the brief glimpse of the pretty lady in the blue and white shirt and short shorts.

I do think there should be a watershed of 10pm when it comes to gambling adverts on TV. Children watching sports are normalised to gambling and bookies before they can even play football.

I cannot stand the amount of gambling adverts on TV at the moment. Was watching some show with the other half a few weeks ago - It was one of her shows, defo a female target audience. Well, I was shocked by the amount of adverts for online casinos for women.. Pink this casino, pink that casino, fluffy this betting etc.. All they do is get people addicted, hoover up all their money and spit them out at Gamblers anonymous minus a house and a family.

I think all online gambling should be illegal.

Agree with this. They should be banished to the late night wastelands, to roam among the party line and shoddy sex toy adverts.

The gambling ads are going to be the next big social issue like smoking and drinking and the ads will be eventually banned.

If you stopped at "I hate Paddy Power ads", you would have been correct.

They're all awful, the lad banter sh*te they try and engage in is painful.

And as for those Maroon 5 pricks....

Surely we would all spend a few thousand euro extra to get a car that would protect our children from Maroon 5.
It seems complicated, involving a drone somehow, but that must give it a greater anti-Maroon range.

Bravo Hyundai!! Get the message out there.

That ad fills me with rage. It really does. Christ I fcuking hate it. I wish a dose of the trots on that hipster looking fcukbag Adam Levine. Absolute ****-knuckes in that ad and nothing else. Kill them all with fire. Thank you for your time.

agree the poster about it being normalised for kids even before they are old enough to kick a ball... defo needs a watershed time

She's a gee-bag too. What's she doing gawking like that. Imbecile. Stalking that family, specifically the child. She's a kunt muffin.

Paddy Power's marketing is lowest denominator ****e. Aimed at the sort of idiot who watched/watches Soccer AM and thinks Transfer Deadline Day is an actual thing to look forward to, to the extent they plan it out and get the beers and crisps in so they can sit up and watch Jim White.

That ad is so out of taste. The girl moments from getting wiped out when trying to open her car door, to Maroon 5 singing and smiling. It's nearly making a joke of the car safety features.

PP twitter is excellent, the ads not so much.

Don't like the blaming of the company for problem gamblers though, I don't blame Mcdonalds advertising for all the fat people around.

Bit of self-control and responsibility never hurt anybody.

And I don't blame alcohol adverts for people being alcoholics. But having these ads on during the day while impressionable kids will be watching the football is morally wrong.

I'm all for people making their own decisions in life, but only adults. Children need to be kept out of it.

Precisely. They target everything at the younger gambler these days; have a look at any Powers shop and they're putting in as many of the betting machines as they can - and it's all young lads doing soccer and sports bet on them.

This is unrelated but can you thank this post? When you thank a post, it always looks like about 3 people are thanking it.

I try to limit my exposure to ads whenever I can -- rarely watch TV. Avoiding ads is great. Most of them are boring. If only there were ad blockers for regular TV.

I've only been watching in streams (and stopping at half time), are these as bad as the ray Winston ones they do during the season? Can't remember who it's for, Ladbrokes maybe, but they are some of the most predatory ads I have ever seen.

I'd prefer my little son to ask me what is Heineken and have him curious about that, than to see Paddy Power ads and him asking me what is.
As you state, the normalisation is disgusting and definitely should be moved to late hours when little eyes aren't being introduced to the world of Gambling.

My next door neighbour was a greyhound trainer, my first trips to the races, picking out my 20p forecasts / tricasts would have been at 6 or 7 years of age.

Gambling is fine, self control / knowing your limits is everything. The same goes for drinking. Controlled introduction by responsible adults makes all the difference.

The problem with the Bantersaurus Rex ad campaigns is they're deliberately targeting the kind of people who lack self control / don't know their limits / have never met a responsible adult. They're a major problem and should be banned outright in my book.

Also at least 10 Premier League clubs will have betting companies on their shirts next season. Need to take a serious look at how seriously they're taking their community responsibilities...

Should all alcohol be illegal because we have alcoholics? Should smoking be illegal because we have people hooked on that? Should fast food be illegal because there's obesity?

"all they do is take your money...."

You got it right there OP
    That's their business.

    Yeah ads are crap.

Apart from that they should be closed down, they are leeches.

Their ads are crap, no doubt about it. In my opinion advertisement agencies are often self aware enough to know they they are can't create a "good" ad so they go for loud, brash and annoying instead, even if you dislike it you still notice it.

I mute the ads during the world cup. I want to enjoy football without listening to the terrible football themed ads.

All sports related advertisements are uttlerly cringe worthy and cr*ap.

"it's not if your knocked down it's if you decide to get up".

"Be the best you can be".

"Nothing is better than representing you country and Guinness".

    That's the one, cheers!

Imagine alcohol ads specifically being placed at times when people who may have alcohol problems might be watching a particular station, with ads explicitly made for egging them on to have a drink. Go on. Drink it, just a sip. Go on you know you want to, treat yourself, relive the good times again... and on and on. It would never make it go TV in the first place in this is day and age. And rightly so.

You don't think maybe people should shoulder some of the responsibility for their own actions?

I can see an add for paddy power without putting the mortgage money on Suarez to score next, I can see an add for Guinness without blowing the nappy money on a couple of trays.

I get a major pain in my balls with all this people need to wrapped in cotton wool and protected from the big bad world. People need to bloody control themselves, that's what they need to do. If you can't walk past a bookies without giving them your wages - the problem is you, not them!

Same goes for an off licence, a shoe shop or a brothel!
