A time to kill, Matthew Mc Conaghy and Samuel L. Jackson spend most of it covered in sweat.

You could almost feel the searing Southern heat through the cinema screen.

People cooling their faces with hand fans and handkerchief.

Characters soaking with sweat in the middle of the night.

    Dirt roads and creeks.

Two more Aussie movies: Mad Max 2 and Walkabout.

    Some of my recommendations:

U-Turn. Sean Penn has a very bad day in a very strange town in the Arizona desert.

The Paperboy. A lurid tale set in the swamplands of Florida.

Biloxi Blues. Matthew Broderick bakes in the Mississippi heat as a new WWII training recruit under the watchful eye of unhinged Drill Sergeant Christopher Walken.

    Dog Day Afternoon
. Bank heist goes awry during a summer day in Brooklyn.

I could happily sit and watch all of these if it wasn't so damn hot!

Another Aussie one - Wake in Fright

Is this any good? Is it like an Australian Deliverance?

It's a very different film to Deliverance but similarly uncomfortable viewing at times.  A teacher gets stranded in a small town on his way to Sydney and reluctantly (at first) participates in a weekend of hard drinking with the aggressively macho locals.  A slow descent into debased masculinity follows.  It's a really good film, well worth a watch.

Do the Right Thing by Spike Lee; racial tensions reach a climax as tempers fray in a NY neighbourhood during a heatwave.

Flight of the Phoenix, the original one. About a plane crash in the desert and the crew trying to get it fixed up and airborne again.

The Hot Spot has Virginia Madsen as a femme fatale getting all hot and bothered down south

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. Shot in an incredibly hot and sweaty looking New Orleans. My favourite Herzog movie and Cage who I cant stand normally.

Summer of Sam. Another Spike Lee heat wave movie. Also my favourite of his.
