Craft registration on the Shannon

I have registered a boat on the Shannon using the online system. My question is what happens next? Will I be sent a sticker for the window or do I need to display anything? Do I need to put the registration number on the boat in big black letters?

A temporary number was issued first, this has now changed to a permanent number.

    Thanks

You will be sent a welcome pack with info on the waterways, your supposed to put the number on the boat but not many do it's not law or anything it's just so WI can identify it if it's left abandoned or if it's in trouble on it's mooring. Welcome to the waterways and enjoy this weather. :)

Sorry can't agree with that, I can't remember the last time I saw a boat on the Shannon without its number. Actually I tell a lie, I do remember the last 2 times, one was a guy getting the third degree in Rooskey lock for not having a number displayed, and the other was a boat moored in Carrick with 3 nasty stickers on it saying it should have a registration number!

    Shannon Bye laws section 6(6).

"Upon the registration of a vessel, the Commissioners shall issue to its owner a disc bearing an indication that the vessel is registered and the owner shall ensure that the disc is conspicuously displayed on the vessel during the period of registration................................................"

In saying that the last time I brought a boat down the Shannon (two years ago), the boat was registered but no sticker showing and I didn't know the number. No problem at the locks I just gave its name (which wasn't showing either) and they seemed happy enough.

I was talking about the big black numbers that go on the bow. :)
