Mumsnet - anyone a member?

Okay, so firstly I have to say that I am NOT a Mum, but a friend of mine who has two kids is always going on about Mumsnet and all the 'amazing advice' she gets on there.
She said to me that you don't need to be a Mum to join as there's lots of other stuff too, eg: general chat, relationships, fashion etc.
So a few weeks ago I joined to see what all the fuss was about.

OMG, what a shower of b*****s! I have never experienced anything like it. They.are.VICIOUS! The b****ing and evil comments on there are something else. They appear to be a group of women who instead of supporting other women instead take delight in dragging them down.
Now, I'm not saying that everyone on there is like that. There are some who seem quite down to earth and a bit of a laugh, but my God there are some on there that I can only describe as absolute bullies.

I didn't personally have an argument with anyone but the backstabbing etc just made me feel really uncomfortable.
I know obviously this happens on all forums, but I just felt it was out of control there.

I've deleted my account and definitely won't be returning, but I'm just wondering if anyone else here felt the same way or if it's just me?

I'm not a member. I have two kids but the whole 'mum' thing is off putting.

I've only ventured in when I've been linked to a particularly funny thread from somewhere else (such as the 'penis beaker'). I don't have an account though and I find the sheer number of regularly used acronyms quite annoying, maybe I'd get used to it if I used the site but I'm not a parent.

I would say though that there are a lot of fcuknuggets on any of these sorts of websites - there are some forums on boards I wouldn't venture into for this reason - so it's possible you might have ended up on a particularly bitchy part of the site? You might get a better idea from boardsies that actually use Mumsnet though.

There are many posters on there who are neither parents nor female. I've found some useful info on the various boards-or topics as they call them-especially on Style and Beauty. I rarely post on any topic but have found the threads about the UK class and educations systems particularly illuminating.

    AIBU can be pretty vicious.

Feminism Chat has been almost completely taken over by hysterical anti-transgender threads, but God help you if you have the audacity to point this out-on that or any other board. There was an unintentionally hilarious one recently about Self-ID in Ireland, where they refused to accept that this had not resulted in the sky falling down.

There is even a board for Irish posters-Craicnet-but that tends to be very quiet.

Threads from Mumsnet are picked up by a leading UK newspaper every single day, some days they have multiple articles.

Am I Being Unreasonable to think that some of the threads may be engineered rather than genuine I wonder ...
