WeChat sending me unwanted Verification Codes

At 9.30 this morning I got a text with a WeChat code on my phone, I didn't request it, never heard of them before this morning, ignored it, two more pinged in, ignored them. At 9.52 a number from Bejing, China rang, ignored it, then 2 minutes later a number from Switzerland called, ignored it, 2 minutes later at 9.54 an Unknown Caller rang, i kept declining it. Couldn't block call as it came in under the name WeChat and not a number, so I added it to my contacts to block it, wouldn't block. All day they've been sending me codes, even up to now. Now when I go into settings to block caller from there, WeChat is coming up in a light grey colour and it won't let me select it to block. I didn't subscribe to anything, nor open strange websites - now I'm worried it's some sort of subscription thing? I haven't replied back - any ideas how I can stop it? Thanks in advance.

I would bet some Irish person has headed off to CN, signed up to WeChat as western services are mostly blocked and has entered your number in error as theirs. Every time they try to get it working, you get the 2 step.

Not sure there is anything that can be done to block it - such providers aren't actually using a sending "number" - but really WeChat should be rate limiting themselves.

Grin and bear it and hope the luddite on the far side eventually cops their error.
