Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Any way to ensure each letter appears only once? Or are there too many squares to make that viable leaving too many X and Q questions?

No should be doable. It's a 5*5 grid so 1 letter in the alphabet to spare.

Where are you getting the questions, Pter? Off the top of your head?

    I'm not that smart. Dictionary.com.

Pter, if you're hosting, would Report on the question post work as a buzzer or are there consequences and visibility concerns there that might make that a little abusive?

I'll ask that question. Not sure they want us using it for that function but if they don't mind it would be a great idea.

My idea on the buzz. After a question is asked, 1st team to type buzz has 1 min to post an answer, if the answer is wrong, the other team has (lets say 5 mins for example) to post an answer.

Therefore the time element only comes into play once someone buzzes. I know eveeyone cant be around always so maybe agreeing on a time to player between those involved would work. Games could be paused when players have to leave.

Gotta say the Dictionary.com as a source is probably the best option for the game going forward too. Easily checkable and it means that there's a standard definition of a word too that can't be argued with. Could we put that in the rules that the quizmaster has to pick his words from there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,941 ✭✭✭osh

Only problem with that is there’ll be no general knowledge type questions.

There is no rule that means you have to touch off your own block or base

I wonder if we could use something like this to generate questions. There is a dedicated blockbusters section, questions don't appear to be overly taxing either.

    So, is Blockbusters viable?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

In it's first format, yes I think so. In it's second format? Maybe. I preferred the tougher questions and alternating turns myself.

    What did you think?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

Yeah, possibly too easy second time, as it was just a matter of who was fastest on the keyboard (which was never me when on the phone). I didn't mind the difficulty level first time. But I like, in theory, the buzzer system, where gamemaster thanks post to give them the go-ahead to answer. And the game board itself seemed okay. So, we've everything we need with format, and just need to fine tune the questions, I think.

Board is there for anyone who wants to use it and give it a shot.

It's on PowerPoint so you would need that or compatible to use that file.

I will host a game if anyone would be interested in playing one this week.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 249 ✭✭SixtaWalthers

Would you like to share that game with us? I am playing bubble shooter nowadays, and it is very brainstorming because I am unable to win a single stage since the beginning, even I was a good player of FB bubble witch saga. Also, share any tip if you have about the shooting. Yes, I am damn interested in playing new games as well.

Would anyone be interested in a table quiz type game? I have a format in mind but thought I'd gauge interest first before pressing ahead with it. It would be a team based, multiple rounds of multiple questions type of thing.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

    I would.

I think I could manage this from the comfort of my deck chair ;)

I was thinking about how teams could communicate, would you just use the PM function on boards here Kol?

Alternatively WhatsApp or discord (although I know you hate discord Mols)

Thanks for all the interest in this, maybe it could work.

So how I was thinking of running it, is holding it over multiple days rather than one night. Reason being is I probably wouldnt have the time, could take a few hours and I dont think everyone would be available.
So having a round of questions each day, posted around midday and results around 8 or 9.
6 rounds of 6 questions with one round of specaility. Also bonus points to be got.
Regarding comms between teams, I was thinking of leaving that up to the teams. As long as there is no research or googling and they confer between themselves, I dont mind what platform they use.

I will try get a signup tread opened in a few days and see how it goes. Maybe have teams of 3.

I know I am a newbie around these parts, so not sure if this has been tried before or not.

How about combining a SHEEP & PEEHS, the same 7/8 questions and pick an answer for each.

    So...

    Catchphrase

Basically the OP posts a clue, whether a cryptic sentence, soundbyte, picture, or whatever. Whoever guesses it correctly first becomes the Chachphrase host and does their own clue.

The idea is that it would be a persistent, always active game (like 20 Questions) to keep us tipping along while things like sheep and quizzes are going on at a slower pace.

    Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

Give us an example clue Tusky. Ted did a thesaurus clue there. What other kinds could there be?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,883 ✭✭✭tusk

Well you could just grab an actual catchphrase pic if you wanted.

    131cce18ad420474bb7624bf305a5920--apple-pies.jpg

    Or somethings like:

    2BW1S

    Or...

I'll Always Run With Others :pac:

Could be anything really, depends on the clue-giver
