You know how everyone seems to suggest gym or fitness classes to meet new people, well i'm just curious has anyone ever made friends from say going to a yoga class?

Not at all, yoga classes and the gym are probably the worst places to try meet people. Might be better to try a fitness group or class where theres more social interaction and engagement.
