    Public transport should be tax free, if the government want to encourage it.

    the NTA have been procuring busses and will be procuring plenty more. Dublin bus procured plenty of busses before the recession, once the recession came only a small amount of busses could be bought due to cuts. nothing to do with the staff but government policy on transport.

    I notice a lot of the posts on here saying that the Dublin public transport is reasonably priced if you avail of the tax breaks and annual passes are being ignored so that people can get outraged over the cost of single journeys...

    Yeah, everyone I know gets at least 10k yearly, after taxes.
    It's 25k a brand new flat, 45k an apartment, 60k a house as an idea.
    Salaries are low, but that balances with expenses.
    Just came back from Taste of Dublin, 20e ticket and spent 20e for 100g of beef and a Peroni, it's a joke.

    And coming back to transport infrastructure comparison, we're comparing 154 euro early vs 1340e on Dublin bus.
    Where we have a subway every 2 minutes in peak times, vs a bus coming every 40 minutes in some areas.

    they have nothing to do with it. they don't set the fares or the level of subsidies or policy. that's government/NTA. the policy seems to be "the passenger must pay the greater share" a policy i don't agree with either.

    It is an incorrect assumptions

    fares and subsidy are the funding model for transport in a lot, if not probably most places tbh. so it's not unique to here.
