Any idea of the expected finish time?

Stage 21 in the 2018 Giro d’Italia starts at 16:00 and the expected finish is at 18:45 – both local times (scheduled times).

Are sky looking to neutralise the race? It's a joke

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,393 ✭✭✭Grassey

Looks like they got it. 8 neutralised laps, then let the sprinters off for the final 2. Might as well switch off now

Well both might be: the hurling on one TV and the Giro on the other TV...I'll see how the hurling and Giro ends and I will tell if I love both :D
But I don't like the winner of the Giro...

The GC contenders were concerned about injury with racing on shiny cobbles, and agreed to end that contest early.

On Cyclingnews, Thomas Dekker summed it up fairly well talking about Froome and Sky... 'The problem with Froome and Team Sky is a lack of transparency.'

Something as simple like the Velon information. Everyone of the top riders had their power data on screen. There was none for Froome.

Froome was also asked about using salbutamol during the Giro and refused to answer.

His power data may be nothing extraordinary and he may have an honest use for Salbutamol but we don't know either. That is a problem as it creates the void for people to fill in the gaps with different theories.

Great way to finish his first GT for Mullen and another brilliant win for Bennett!

3 Stage wins is an amazing result for him and great reward for him.

To be so close to giving up on his dream not so long ago and now he is a genuine superstar. I am delighted for him and all those who have supported him in Carrick and Irish cycling in general

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 320 ✭✭f1000

Sammy seemed to pick the better line as Elia was struggling to put the power down, his rear wheel was all over the shop

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,763 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

If Sam had his leadout man he may well have won the sprint jersey, he was definitely the fastest sprinter in the race, just struggled with his positioning versus the Quickstep train at times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,256 ✭✭✭MPFGLB

Sam Bennett has had a great Giro and this should improve his confidence no end

What I like is that unlike most fast men he can also climb so there alot of possibilities in the future

Well done Sam! 3 Giro stage wins is phenomenal!
Also great GT for Bora with having 2 riders finish in top-10 in GC.

Well done to Ryan Mullen also for finishing his first GT!

I haven't been as pleased about a Grand Tour win, since Chris Horner won the Vuelta.

    Some interesting comments from Sam.

Also, he's doing the National Champs but rest of his 2018 programme is undecided.

3 wins in a grand tour is huge, big step forward by Sam. Think someone said he was under contract for next year which is kind of a pity, his stock is high now so could have earned himself a move to be the no 1 sprinter somewhere. If he was French Cofidis would be all over him, better than Bouhani for sure

Great coup for Sligo if he competes. I'll definitely be going over for a look.

Didnt bother watching the last 2 stages what was the point, delighted for Sam B., it was important for him to get that win. To prove to himself that the other stage wins were not exceptions, and important for him to come out of the Giro on a high rather than questioning himself.
Has Froome posted the 'couch' photo yet....
you know the one where he is reclining on the couch with the Giro, Vuelta and the TDF winning jerseys all framed and hanging on the wall behind him, with the '2 finger salute' caption ...

Didnt watch any of it, followed a couple of stages online but gave up like yourself after that 'display'.
Wont be watching a single second of the tdf. We are been taken for absolute mugs by him, his team and probably others.

A great point by Phillipa York

"there's the incongruence of how he pulls a big gear round in time trials compared to his pedal speed uphill. The TT specialists can turn a massive gear quickly and they try to spin a tiny gear on steep hills to limit the hurt, but they aren't going over mountains in the front using that style.

In comparison, Bradley Wiggins rode a small gear uphill but he also pedalled at a similar speed in the time trials, so that kind of made sense."

I am not sure which thread i am on ....Monday morning eh ?

But argument that you can ride because the rules says so is a mute
For one thing Simon Yates did not race when his case was under investiagtion

But that aside the real issue is for me that if SKY & Froome cared about the sport they would
    1. Clear up the case asap...hold their hands up or come up with the defense..its 8 months now and counting
    2. while doing that they would NOT race as that would help the credibility of the sport
    3. they would publish power data ( as others do)
    4. they woudl join MPCC
    5. in short they woudl do everything in their power to understand and mange the credibilty of the sport ..guilty or innocent

That they are only interested in wining and calling all those who dont support them on twitter trolls speaks volumes
They dont or cant seem to see the bigger picture and that is why every win since the Vuelta no matter how stupendous will not earn them fans

The Mitchelton Scott case is an interesting one. They were a stage team from inception without a GC program. It was only 2015 that they started their GC program with Chaves and a year after signing the young twins. They withdrew from MPCC in early 2016 and the timing of that was not lost on many members of MPCC. In other words we are members but once we get our GC program going we pull out. That's not to say anything is a miss but it did cause a lot of raised eyebrows in the peloton. Though to be fair to them they suspended Impy and Yates themselves as soon as news broke of a positive result.

What's a really interesting stat is one that emerged over the course of the giro. Since it's inception in 2007 there have been 32 grand tours. Only 3 of them have been won by members of the MPCC.
