Live in rural Mayo....had not heard the Cuckoo in a few years and have heard one twice in the last week.
Are their numbers going down do people know?

Numbers have been dropping over the past 15 years or more, as the number of species they 'cuckoo' have reduced. It's the knock on from overall species loss.

I heard a cuckoo last Sunday morning in Dublin, Botanic Road area. I've never heard one before. I hope I'll hear him again.

Was out digging worms this morning and heard one for the first time in a few years. Shortly after, two flew over my head. One closely followed by the other. Mentioned it to my Da, and he said he'd heard loads this year.

Enjoy it while it lasts. As the saying goes 'in June he changes his tune'

Heard one or two and actually saw one in early May. Nothing for the last two or three weeks. Co. Wicklow.

    The cuckoo comes in April
He sings his song in May
In the month of June he changes tune
And in July he flies away!

In spite of The Beast From The East and the generally wet windy spring the cuckoo arrived at the appointed time to Westport and to the slopes of Nephin in North Mayo....consistent locations two years in a row.
