He got sick a few years ago, packed in before he hit the deck, was pope for 8 years. Still alive now 91 years old

The Popes have long lost their temporal authority since Napoleon took his Imperial Crown in his own hands and crowned himself Emperor of the French in 1800. Up to that time a Bishop or Pope had to crown and endorse most European heads of State. But the French revolution and the later developments of the Reformation started the separation of Church and State that we take for granted today.

In many formerly Catholic countries the influence of the Church has waned considerably not only in Ireland but in Spain and Italy where a significant anti clerical and secularist movement exists, especially among left wing parties and also in Portugal. The dictatorships of the 1930's in Spain and Portugal had the support of the Church and this alienated many ordinary people from religion as a result.

The same thing can be seen among the working class areas of Irelands cities where church attendance and religious devotion has all but collapsed.

While the Pope got huge crowds in the visit to Ireland in 1979 it is doubtful if this support will be repeated in 2018.

If Liverpool win the Championship League either Benedict or Francis will die this year.

It has always happened when Liverpool have won the European Cup and there has been a royal wedding in the UK (ok granted 1981 was an falied assaniation rather successful one).

So s Liverpool win and one of the two popes dies.

And I do believe Benedict is old and in poor health as it is.

Think he's over 90. He published a letter recently stating that he feels his time is coming to an end. I wouldn't be surprised if he died before the end of the year.

Fella has a direct line to upstairs, lol.

Er, the French Revolution occurred at the end of the 18th Century. The Reformation, if you mean Martin Luther's movement, started in the early 16th century, some 250 years earlier.

In fact you could say that the first really significant challenge to Papal authority and Catholic Church doctrine had started a century before Luther with Jan Hus's activities in Bohemia.

As for the "separation of Church and State": isn't it ironic that one Protestant regime, namely England, has an absolute integration between church and state with the head of the Church of England also being the head of state?

One reason why it is AGAINST THE LAW for somebody in succession to the throne of England to marry a Catholic. Their intended either has to convert to Anglicanism, or the Royal has to give up their succession rights to the throne.

Interesting conundrum in politics if a Catholic ever becomes prime minister, or is put in a position where they might contend to be prime minister. If the ultra catholic Jacob Rees Mogg ever becomes head of the Conservative Party, it will throw up interesting challenges :)

There have been a couple of rumours in recent years suggesting that he is ill, or near death. The Vatican has denied them but, inevitably, one day they they will turn out to be correct. He was last seen in public in February, looking very frail but standing and walking under his own power, talking to people and seeming engaged. It's reported that much of the time he uses a wheelchair.

His older brother Georg is still with us at the age of 94, so seemingly they are a long-lived family. Georg was well enough to travel to Rome (from Regensburg, in Bavaria, where he lives) to celebrate his brother's 91st birthday in April of this year.

the current pope is an imposter.

he is not the pope but the false prophet referred to in the book of revelations.
He will bring about the end of days.

as for benedict..he was clearly shafted in a coup to enable the false prophet to claim the seat of saint peter.

the only evidence of benedict being a nazi was being a member of hitler youth as a child. a ****in child...also you ignore that at the time it might have been mandatory to be member...

but that is merely an aside.. his shafting which so delights you has paved the way for the end of days to occur. but thats grand once you feel your smug satisfication at his undoing....like fcuk the rest of humanity.

It will, believe me, for many reasons. They are for example,, making huge preparations at Knock in the hope h calls in there
People need hope and they will flock to see him.

PS I deleted the rest of your post as it is not the real reason for the decline of faith here in Ireland

You should probably use all your AL entitlements sooner rather than later as a precaution. Be a bummer to lose them due to end of days.

but then you start worrying that it will get delayed again and all your annual leave has been used. Its not like we haven't been promised the end of days for a very long time.
