Shocking reality of prostitution in Ireland

A HUSBAND and wife team who charged clients €200 an hour for sex with them at their Co Clare home today escaped jail.

Spanish national, David Navaro (50) and his Brazilian born wife, Celia Galan (41) arrived into Ireland from Barcelona in 2015 and a surveillance operation by Gardai was mounted outside the couple's Ennis home in July 2016 as a result of Garda suspicions that there was a brothel being operated from their home.

According to Insp Tom Kennedy at Ennis District Court on July 23 2016, Gardai entered the home at Station View, Ennis and discovered a Laptop, phone, notebook with clients’ names and an Escort Ireland advert on the Laptop confirming that prostitution was being conducted at the property.

Insp Kennedy said that the two were advertising themselves to customers on the Escort Ireland website as ‘Anne & Peter’.

An advert placed by the two on Escort Ireland stated: ‘Ann is a woman of 30 years with a pretty face and Peter is a man of 38 years with a slender body and both are eager to please you’.

The inspector said that the two would charge clients €200 an hour for sex; €170 for 45 minutes and €130 for 30 minutes.

Call out rates worked out at €250 for the first hour of sex.

I for one am outraged, glad to see the Gardai doing their job and coming down hard on these frauds

If it wasn't prostitution it would have been false advertising.

IF they'd set up a camera in their room and were "contracted" by their clients to make "porn" it would have been fine and legal, no?

Haha, this is a well known bait-and-switch tactic.

Some horny ****er arrives at the door expecting a ride, and isn't going to turn on their heel and go home and pull themselves off, so they just get on with it.

Dunno about here but that’s true in the US.

As for the ages, if well preserved they may have gotten away with it. 38 is a popular age on dating sites too.

You could take it home or delete it once you were finished and say it wasn’t good enough. So if an undercover cop comes in it’s all above board. As someone said above, this works in US, would be interesting to hear if it would work here.

On a slightly related note, I was watching Gogglebox a while back and there was some Channel 4 cop documentary on it. Some guy landed in the station with a note he found on his windscreen. He’d been in with a prozzie and someone had left a blackmail note on his car a few days later saying they knew where he was, what he was doing etc and a screenshot of the prozzers website. They also gave details of an out of the way location for a money drop. Cops had the place survailed to bits, but no one showed up to collect, leaving them a bit baffled. Can’t remember the full details of what they did to track it, but it turned out that one of the surveillance cops had been survailing the prozzers house, getting car regs from the “visitors”, looking them up on the police system and blackmailing them. Idiot cop had also googled “ways to make easy money” on his work computer.

Personally I wouldn’t like to see prostitution legalised in Ireland.

Purchase of sex should me made illegal, as should managing anyone in the sex business (pimping)

I wouldn’t particularly agree with criminalising the sex workers themselves.

I don’t agree it’s a waste of Garda time as the pimps and trafficking are mainly serious criminal gangs and anything to hurt them is good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,351 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Tax it, regulate it, let people do what they want as long as no-one gets hurt would be my feeling on it.

I think the shocking reality might be the ages of the prostitute, and the old-fashioned, sexist, notion that only females can turn tricks.

Oldest business in the world, the very definition of shocking apparently.

it's a national outrage so it

    Is it? =o

If they all went on strike, would it be a national outage that sparks national outrage?

Sleeping with a prostitute is like making your cat dance on it's hind legs, you know it's wrong but you try to convince yourself that you both enjoy it.

This is the law now for a while already. There was a big thread on here about it.

Don't agree myself, if all involved are consenting adults, where's the harm? Also making it one sidedly illegal is discrimination IMO.

Less damaging than cheating on your spouse and breaking up a family and that's all legal.

Trafficking and sex slavery a whole different ballgame.

OP, can't see why this is so shocking to you.

    It's the oldest profession!

    So people like sex? Amazing!
And the ones who don't get it easily are willing to pay for it? Extraordinary!
And someone is willing to provide it for a fee? Whoopppeee!

If paying for something nice is shocking to you, so should pubs and sweetshops be, too.

If this were legal, it wouldn't have to be so cloak-and-dagger, and the girls would have a lot more legal protection, too.

Between this and the goat plague they have their hands full.

The goats don't charge a fee as far as I know, only the two old goats in the headlines.

I'd love to see the list of clients of the two old goats, though.

Let's just legalise it and start taking tax from it.

Who are we to tell a women what to do with her body?

Agreed, making criminals of the punters does nothing whatsoever for the actual prostitute. It just means a shortage of punters thus prostitutes have to take more risks to make money.

I do find it amusing that when it comes to abortion and gay marriage its very much "my body my choice", the same people turn there nose up at prostitutes who use the same justification for there job.

Legalise it and tax it and obviously tackle trafficking.

I don’t “do” twitter much but searched for my own town there looking desperately for some local gossip and was a little bit shocked but not offended to find a lady in the sex business advertising that she would be in a town in the next county for 2 nights and then here in our town for 2 nights and inviting gentleman callers to contact her.
I know so many sad lonely single men totally frustrated and desperate and really and truly if she’s not being forced to do this through and addiction or more sinister circumstances and she can bring some satisfaction to them and they can afford it and it saves them from total isolation, or worse, attacking some random woman in a black moment, then I can’t see how it’s any of my business wether she does or not.

Oldest profession stuff is just rubbish talk, people have been murdered to steal their goods for as long - should we legalise murder too because some people think it’s a good way to make a quick buck ?
