Putting together a list of where to spend your excess credit, especially for those on Three whereby your 20e are accumulating over the months. Will add to the list as required:

Firstly there are a wide range of charities that accept text donations:

    Or via the Alchemy App:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.colmcoughlan.colm.alchemy

    Play Store (Android):
    - Premium Apps & In-app purchases
    - Movies
    - Books (via Play Books app)

    Services & Subscriptions:

    - Google Play Music
    - Deezer
    - Dropbox
    - Office 365 (via Onedrive app)
    - Donedeal Adverts
    - Parking via ParkingTag App
    - UFC Fightpass Subsscription
    - Sky Sports Mobile

In app purchases worth a mention:
    -Hearthstone
    - Ultimate Rugby

    Text Competitions
    - RTÉ Shows (Eg. Late late)

Not sure if it works for tesco but just try to purchase a paid app in the play store.

When selecting payment method choose carrier billing.

If this works then you'll be able to use your credit for purchases

No. Only Three and Vodafone in Ireland currently.

For Android users, and picking up on the earlier LikeCharity mention, you can get a third party app if you want to donate quick and easy.

Thanks for this thread, had no idea you could spend the credit :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 471 ✭✭go4it

I've been with tesco prepaid for 2 years , til this march.
Every year was building around 100 quid unused credit ( from the 15euro/month top up ) and donate it to about 10 charities through the short sms number value codes ( likecharity list )
The only other way to use the remaining tesco prepaid credit was to upgrade to bill pay and use the prepaid credit to pay the bills..

One of my mates on three network was looking to make a basic android app with < in app > spending, that way he would recover 40-50% of the credit...

So if I have a balance built up, I can switch to bill and won't have to pay anything until the balance is gone? Might do that as I'd probably get a few months free

    Via Google play .

At the moment I get the option to manage subscriptions when I go to the UFC app in the store

at one point a sales rep in tesco store offered me the option to move from prepaid to bill pay ( and to enslave me for 2 years with bills..)
Afaik was a maximum amount that you can carry over from pre to post pay, around 200 quid or so

    1. Add credit or debit card
    2. Add PayPal
    3. Redeem code

I would much prefer Deezer if I could pay using my credit.
You can pay for Deezer with your Three credit on this page. If you don't mind creating a new Deezer account, the first three months are free. The subscription is then €9.99/month, deducted from your call credit.

Those on Vodafone can pay for Spotify Premium with their credit. I posted some info earlier in this post. This subscription is €5/month.

Google Music seems to have recently reduced its price as it now shows as €7.99/month. It gives me the option to pay by Vodafone carrier billing (shown below), so I assume the same remains true with the Three network, which I paid with in the past.

Sounds like you are on iOS. It doesn't support carrier billing in Ireland.

If I was to use a android phone to originally subscribe then go back to iOS should it keep it rolling over?

    Pretty sure it does!
Can be activated on multiple devices at the same time so I see no reason why it wouldn’t

Would people be in interested in signing up for Dezzer or Play Music - to the family plan?

For Deezer, €14.99 p.m with 6 people & you can cancel anytime afaik.

You can pay for Viber Out credits which can be used to call landline and mobiles in Ireland or anywhere abroad. Call prices are cheaper than that charged by Three.

    Thanks.
    The 9.99 cost 10.99 though.

How much cheaper? I guess you can't get any worse than three for landlines I was on the phone for less than a minute to landline and cost over a euro

They used to be the same amount few months back but recently changed so there is 50 cents tax/extra if you buy 4.99 viber credit and a euro extra for 9.99.

Costs to Ireland are 2 cents for landline and 9.2 for mobile .. Three charges around 39 cents so there is a good saving. Call quality is not bad if you have a good 4G/Wi-Fi connection.

    Thanks,
I was trying on PC and couldn't find.
Have just located by trying to subscribe through my Android.
Still not sure I'm ready to commit to 9.99 per month, and don't have that much spare credit built up at the moment.
It does give me a reason to save it up again though.

    Thanks for the thread

Thanks for all of these suggestions.

    Please keep them coming.

Do you all mind adding if it is Android or IO'S compatible, or on what device you can confirm it works?

    Thank You OP.

An app i use and pay for with credit is LastPass. Will store all your passwords for you and will generate really strong passwords when needed. You can have a different password on every site and not have to remember any of them. Just your master password.

Having said that, I can't remember what I'm getting over the free version. It's around €7 a year.

use the credit to vote your favorite SONG ( NOT country ) on tomorrow's Eurovision contestyou

tip: if you didn't see any (pseudo)performances in the semi-finals, it's a good idea to just listen the songs on youtube, eurovision site or else.
Warning : if you look at the performance on stage, your senses could be skewed by some visual xxxcensoredxxx

I had the paid version when you had to have it for LastPass on mobile devices but you can use it on device for free now.

This is that I've been doing since I switched back to 3. It's a no-brainer. I just checked, and my last €5 top up was before Xmas. Shows how little I make calls to landlines, or to people that wouldn't have some sort of VOIP capable app on their phone.

I have unused Tesco mobile credit I'd like to use.

    Thanks
