hot glue gun caliber question

What happens in a hot glue gun if you put in sticks that are way smaller than caliber of the glue gun ? so 7-8mm sticks in 12mm gun? Will it work? :confused:

You can get them really cheap in Deals and in StarBuys and try it - but I doubt it will feed correctly as the gun needs to grip it and push it in.
