Signed up for mobile Broadband today after checking with Eir on coverage.
Told I was well covered maybe even 4g
Look at the attachment showing speed test.Laughable "speed"
I watched as it got slower and slower from approx 7pm as people arrived home and turned on their laptops, smartphones etc.
Can Eir advise me what I have to do to cancel my contract please?
    Thank you

Signed up to eir and was told I would get 150 mb . I have only 9 or 10 mb. Eir fibre is outside my gate. I have been passed from technical service to customer service to sales department . I have been escorted from a store for using bad language. I am disgusted can anyone advise on a course of action?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,852 ✭✭✭Steve F

Believe it or not I would be happy with 9mb 😋 But 0.07mb is taking the pee
I either want a fix or cancellation please Eir

Maybe not use bad language for a start.

Whatever your issue cursing and blinding at staff who aren't the ones causing an issue for you don't deserve to be cursed at,especially in a store with other people and children about and then to be "escorted" from the store shows how bad you acted.

You catch more flys with honey than with viniger

    Yes,agree
I look forward to Eir's response tomorrow when they read my post and see the speed tests 🙄
I don't think anyone could disagree that the speed I am getting is totally unacceptable

Surely you're covered under a cooling off period?

I think that only applies to on line orders
    I bought this in store
Dunno, let's see what Eir say tomorrow
    Very disappointed.
I know coverage map is not a gaurantee of service but my area says "excellent 4g coverage"

Ah yes advertisement, the industry where all lies are accepted! I'd be surprised if you're not covered under cooling off

    Aye, maybe
Anyway, unless there is a vast improvement I'm cancelling

Why do people sign up to a contract without first buying a pay as you go sim and checking if there is actually a good broadband signal,

Unfortunately it was after 8pm when I realized how poor the speed was. They finish at 8pm

School boy error by me definitely
I wouldn't have a device to try an Eir SIM in
I do see your point .Feel a bit daft now
Everything looked promising tho with the 99% coverage blurb they put out plus the map showing me well covered

You have mobile data and wifi turned on - if you have a mobile BB dongle then turn the mobile BB off and test it.
That data is flawed otherwise since there is no way to know which you are connecting over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,852 ✭✭✭Steve F

You sure? The results show that I was using the modem

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,868 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

That image shows mobile data on H+ which is pretty crap at the best of times

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,852 ✭✭✭Steve F

    It shows the Huawei modem???

The image shows connecting over mobile data and what I presume to be wifi blocked

To be clear - we are talking about the mobile BB dongle and not just using a phone for BB over mobile data usage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,852 ✭✭✭Steve F

The screen shot was taken AFTER I had run the speed test and turned the modem off

Your screenshot is showing you using mobile data on H+ which is so crappy you can barely download a webpage

See post above - you should be on wifi then, not mobile data

    He's right.

Turn off your mobile phone data and connect to the dongle on Wi-Fi only. Your phone could have crap coverage the but the dongle may be better.

Also note that if more people are connected to the same dongle it will slow it down some.

They're support should be able to help you though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,852 ✭✭✭Steve F

    I am on WIFI
It shows H+ because that was what I was on when I took the screen shot

It's OK Ten Pin, Thousands of people already know where I live. I don't class my Eircode as sensitive material and it will help Eir pinpoint my exact location

The school down the road from you can get 17Mb DSL - you should be able to get similar if yoiu have a line already installed (depending on the line quality)

Strange your download speed would be so bad, maybe get them to double check it - maybe hope they continue the FTTH a bit further down the road to you

I don't think these Eir reps can help. I've noticed they get replaced frequently with new names. Either they quit from being bombared by customers and know they can do nothing to help except express their apologies for the inconveniences caused and ask for your account details. Or they attempt to help and get fired for doing it.

I said either or. Why else do the reps keep changing? I've spoken to at least 3 different ones who are no longer one of the 4 available and none of them have ever been able to help me with anything except expressing apologies and asking for account details. Where is Adam, Anna, Leanne, Tony, Kevin and maybe even others all gone in the past few months? I'd love to be proven wrong by one of them helping my current situation. Waiting replies from Thomas and or Tracey.

Becuase maybe they have moved to a different section by choice or have been redeployed, do you get the same customer service agent everytime you call into a place? Bit of a ridiculous claim to make just because the same name isnt here, the Eir forum has been here for years, doubt people want to stay in customer service for years

Have you had a good experience with any Eir reps here where they have been helpful to you? From my experience and various other disgruntled customers thread I've read, this forum is nothing more than a charade. I hope I can be proven wrong however. Waiting replies to my PM's.

I'll give you some real advice as it seems the reps don't know what to say.

There's different bands used in Ireland for 3g and 4g data.

Usually if you are in a rural area, you will be using the lower freqency bands as these extend to further distances than the shorter bands. However they don't penetrate walls well so indoors will usually have hopeless speed or you'll have to try move the modem around to find a good spot. If moving it doesn't help, don't count on those speeds ever improving.
