So it looks like this about to happen in Dublin this year so I had to see what the good people of Boards thought. I work in Architecture in Dublin and heard this today.

Flyefit are opening a 24,000sqft on Belgard Road, Tallaght next to DID Electrical. 'Love Build' the fitting company Flyefit use have confirmed it along with the next Flyefit gym in Stillorgan

The Gym Monastervin is opening a second gym thats a 20,000sqft warehouse in Ballymount Industrial Estate (its the big warehouse on the M50 you might know it, it has the 'Wigwam Events' cars outside it and has had a William Harvey To Let/For Sale banner on it for months)

Lease is in draft stage pending planning for the 3rd gym but proposed 22,000sqft warehouse with ancillary carpark for 100 cars in Broomhill, Tallaght near Robert Roberts coffee.

If you look on Google maps these 3 gyms are going to be opening up within 3 miles of each other!!. The most incredible thing is neither of them seem to know about each other.

Now does anyone have a spare room in Dublin 24 I could rent? ;)

Oh do you know where the one in stillorgan is opening?

Above the Lidl seemingly but with the Dublin School of grinds there already I dont know where they plan to fit in. I know there was a submission for intensification on the area due to the parking issues. Multiple high profile tenants sharing the same carpark.

Contributions and levies will be paid to the council and all will be well again.

Thanks, that would be a good location for them - especially with the new student residence development due to be built beside it, though perhaps a bit small if Dublin School of Grinds are staying there. They have been doing some building work outside the Lidl there for a few months now, maybe it is related somehow. Some competition for Raw in the Stillorgan Industrial estate too I'd say.

Just watch out for flash sales 1-2yrs from now when theres an offer for 50% off if you pay the annual fee now.

Overall best of luck to all of them and hope they bring more employment to the areas in question

I see the two new flyefits are apparently opening at the end of July - probably a very optimistic date. The presale discount is available now - €30 off the annual price but wold probably rather wait and have a look round first and pay the extra €30 tbh.

Emailed them and FBed them about opening hours (whether they will be 24 hours or not) and no reply, and very little information on the website about the new locations, given that they are taking sign-ups already.

From their recent history, July 2019 would be optimistic.

Thanks - won't be rushing in so! Guess it's a handy way for them to get income and cash in a few months before they open to pay for the fit out.

An ex trainer there was telling me a lot of the PTs work there for 12 hours or so a week for free in lieu of rent (and can then do their own PT sessions and keep all the income obviously), and that's how they staff the place so cheaply. Interesting model.

I'm sure they give their rental payment clients the due care and attention they deserve.

The just got back to me: July 23rd is the official date for stillorgan opening and it won't be open 24 hours in case anyone else is interested.

Stillorgan seems to be actually opening ahead of schedule now, 20th July instead or 23rd. Still reluctant to go for the presale though - from other Flyefits, are they generally completely finished when they open, or are there loose ends e.g. showers not working, equipment not fitted yet when they open? If so I would rather hold off I think than pay for a half finished gym for the first few weeks, that said my current gym membership expires soon enough after they open so I might take a chance!

Stillorgan is pretty finished with all equipment in. Just needs to be moved around a bit. July 20 is the open day / weekend. July 23 is the first paid day. That was always the schedule. Looks like we opened a gym on time :)

    Presale ends midnight 22/23 July.

On the Tallaght location for Flyefit. Their site says Tallaght Cross which is the other side of The Square from where DID Electrical is. I did see a lot of work beside DID but don't think it's going there.

Thanks Ranger - that's very helpful! So you can go in for a look on the open weekend and still get the presale rate if you join before Monday 23rd? That's very reasonable!

    Yup, that's my understanding.

This is no longer the case. Probably closer to mid August. Externally influenced delays :(

At the same time, energie fitness gym and pool ( parkwest) closes down. Margins must be good.

Where is the energie fitness in DL going? Seems odd that some have closed down and others are just opening - are they franchised?

Is that the site that was between the building on the corner and the NCBI offices? Or does it include the building on the corner?

The gym in Monasterevin is unreal. One of the best.

Popped into stillorgan flyefit for a look. Seemed smaller than I thought it would be but I am never good at gauging these things. Looked like plenty of racks, most of the usual machines, some banks of treadmills & crosstrainers and then a very large astro area with concept 2s and ski ergs and air bikes. From what I gather the astro area is used a lot for classes and also seems to be the only place to stretch etc. or do bodyweight exercises so not sure how that will work when there are classes on.

Only spotted one cable station so imagine that could be a pinchpoint given the increasing number of people who seem to do 85 variations of chest flyes with different attachments and cable heights. They have a standing leg curl machine which I have never seen/tried before rather than the usual seated/lying versions. Interesting.

Lockers seemed tiny, though maybe it was just me and my big bag of girly stuff.

Think Tallaght is going to be bigger so they might have more stuff.

Tallaght will be about 3 times the size of Stillorgan.
Stillorgan studio can also be used for stretching etc, outside of classes.

Just saw that - twice the size which is massive 30,000 sq ft (15000 in Stillorgan). Will be some facility I'd say!

Just to update re stillorgan flyefit - joined up and trained there properly today. They have added some things since I went there on the open weekend so thought I should add to my previous report - another cable station and a leg extension which also doubles as a seated leg curl have been added. As well as the racks there are two olympic platforms for DLs and Oly lifting so a very good range overall, and looking forward to training there at least until it gets mobbed come September or so!

    So. Many. Squat. Racks.

Could do with a wall clock and a better range of light dumbells (only seem to have 2.5s, 5s and 7.5s and am used to 1-10kgs in 1kg increments which are great for things like lateral raises and curls etc. but I guess I just need to get stronger :o

May I ask if it was particularly busy while you were there?

Very quiet but I was in about 10am so that would be expected in a lot of places I'd say. Won't be trying it in the evenings until next week. Come the September gym influx (including students) and as people's annual memberships etc. expire I imagine the place will get a lot busier as it's a good location
