    Hi There,

Beyonce has announced she is gifting $100,000 to black colleges in America.

If Donald Trump issued a statement stating he was benefiting white colleges (no such thing) there would be uproar.

I am on my phone and can't add links....sorry.

bit of a non story , pocket change for her to give, and probably not even enough money to fund a student through 4 years of college ....

Also, what's it to do with Trump ?

Yes it's penny's to Beyonce. I just think to pick a race to give scholarship funding too is not right. Don't all races deserve the same.

If donald done the same for white kids he would be classed as racist.

Private citizen v President. What's your real reason for starting this thread?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

    “All races deserve the same”

Exactly the reason she’s giving it to black students. The American education system is ****ed. Get yourself into $200,000 by the time your 22-23, yeah no thanks.

Wasn't Trump University sued for being a scam?

Colleges that are set up for Black people exist because those colleges are located in communities where only Black people live.
Those places are usually deprived areas. They could do with some help I should think. I doubt the likes of Harvard needs the f**king help when the likes of Trump and his mates pay 100,000's of dollars to send their kids to establishment colleges so they can sit in a frat house partying like f**king animals then get the degree because daddies $$$$$$$$$

No such thing as black only colleges. Shes giving it to colleges which were set up before the civil rights movement in the 60's that were targeted towards black students and presumably are still largely black now. Nothing wrong with it, if an Irish American gave 100k to a traditionally Irish American school would there be anything wrong with that?

    Probably knowing Trump.

In today's world everyone wants equality....Beyonce should have given her $100k to anyone worthy . To basically say blacks only need to apply is shameful

Black communities still receive a lower quality of education than white, less money put in and lower quality schools. So not exactly outrage worthy to put money into black education initiatives.

Harvard held a separate graduation ceremony for black students last year.

I'll let that sink in for a second.

This is how far down the identity politics rabbit hole they are going in America. It's all going backwards.

The whites had guns and rounded up blacks and made them their slaves.

Later on, some of the whites came to the realization that having slaves is wrong, so they set them free.

Today on average, the whites earn 10 times more than the now free blacks.

and you've got people all worried about the whites.

    :(:(:(:(

Did she specifically say "This is for a black College"
Or did she give to a college that needed funding, has mostly/all colored pupils as its in slums.
And media are click-baiting it to which you've indulged on?

While we're at it, why is it only unemployed people that paid job seekers allowance? I'm in full-time work and it's racist that I don't get it too.

Don't get me started on disabled parking. It's a disgrace that I can't get that.

Yes because being black is like being disabled. I think they call that the bigotry of low expectations. What the black community needs is more handouts. Seems to be working a treat so far.

All them other rock stars that blew millions on cocaine going up their nose. Giving all their money to South America when they should have been buying homemade crystal toilet duck crank made in the sheds of the Nevada Desert. Racists and traitors to the Stars and Stripes. Sad!

That couldn't be anywhere near true.

Unless, I suppose you used a few select white high earners like oh I dunno, Mark Zuckerberg or Jeff Bezos etc. to skew the figures a tad!

All this pro black shít in America is racist as fúck, people just don't like to point it out because apparently actually being racist is nowhere near as bad as appearing to be racist by, eh, calling out racism, I think:D

$100k is peanuts; Chuck Feeney anonymously gave billions to the Irish education system alone. And unlike our native capitalists like O'Reilly, O'Brien, Quinn, Smurfit and Naughton who gave a pittance in comparison, he expressly said he didn't want anything in any college or school named after him.

This publicity-seeking Beyonce yoke, needless to say, has an ego that's more in the mode of our native tax dodgers.

That would be great if the demographic attending all colleges was the same. The average student attending Harvard probably has much better prospects and advantages than the average student attending a college on the edge of the hood in Detroit. So which should get the funding?

    Here’s the link https://www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/beyonce-gives-100-000-4-historically-black-colleges-n866316

She started scholarship programmes for 4 colleges. The article also mentions that she started scholarships for women last year so I suppose she’s sexist too.

    Beyonce is a cnut.

That being said, I couldn't give a sh1t if she donates what is essentially a pittance to her, to a black college. Publicly stunt.

She's nothing but a fake, boring, insincere, money grabbing, gangsters mol. And her ar*e-lickers, sorry fans, are even worse.

Study after study year after year will have the median household wealth headed by a white person running at 10+ times that of a black person. I think it was 16000 this year for blacks that would put whites at 160000+

ten times?? Whered you hear this?
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_groups_in_the_United_States_by_household_income
Wikipedia says average white household earns 61,349 dollars per year, average black household earns 38,555
Big difference but very far off your ten times claim.

I googled income of white Vs black and this was on the first page

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2017/09/28/black-and-hispanic-families-are-making-more-money-but-they-still-lag-far-behind-whites/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.59e06a435724
The median net worth of whites remains nearly 10 times the size of blacks'. Nearly 1 in 5 black families have zero or negative net worth — twice the rate of white families.
But the wealth gap between black and white families grew by 16 percent during that time, and by 14 percent between Hispanics and whites. In 2016, white families had a median net worth of $171,000, compared with $17,600 for blacks and $20,700 for Hispanics.

Put another way, nearly half of black and Hispanic households had a net worth of less than $50,000 in 2016, compared with about a fifth of whites. At the other end of the income spectrum, 15 percent of white households reported a net worth of more than $1 million, compared with about 2 percent of blacks and Hispanics.

I knew there would be a difference but I never imagined it would be 10 times.

However at least I googled it rather than going off at all the "pro black sh1t" and calling someone racist for pointing out what the actual income difference is.

Edit: It is networth not income but it's still horrible.

Why would you bother to educate yourself when you can give out about black people on the internet instead?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,205 ✭✭✭cruizer101

Juts checked and she is worth $350 million, that's $350,000,000 (lots of zeros) so she gave 1/3500th of her wealth or approx 0.03%.

For comparison the average Irish household is estimated to have networth of €225,000 (this figure is skewed by some very rich but lets go with it) so thats the equivalent of 65 quid.

Fair play to you Beyonce you're so generous.

Regarding 'black colleges', they are colleges which are historically black that doesn't mean they restrict access in any way, chances are they just happen to be impoverished compared to many other colleges and that is why she gave them money.

The black, brown and white people captured black people and sold them as slaves to other black, brown and white people. When the white people paid more for slaves than the brown and black people, the slave trade went predominately west across the Atlantic and north to Europe.

I don't know how they measure median household wealth, but you said earnings - which are quite straight forward to measure and they don't show anything approaching the level of disparity you stated. Well less than one fifth of it actually.

If I was ever in a position to have a foundation with such wealth behind it i would love to give to kids education. Of course you couldn't give to all I would pick out who needs it most by means testing etc race or sex of applicant would not contribute in my decision

Just to add the median wealth of black people is trending towards zero. It'll hit zero in about 35 years unless something is done.
    https://www.theguardian.com/inequality/2017/sep/13/median-wealth-of-black-americans-will-fall-to-zero-by-2053-warns-new-report

The thing is that all of this is caused by public policy that was enacted before and after the civil war. It started to be changed after the civil rights era but it's still not completely gone. The effect of this is that there is in effect a two tier society in the US. And although it was created by decades and decades of public policy people think any policy that is designed to reverse it is "racist"
