    I know its 110 years ago but didn't the Italian Pietri lose the gold medal in the marathon after staggering in the few yards and getting assistance from officials

    That's correct. Dorando Pietri in the London 1908 Olympics. The officials desperately tried to prevent an Irish-American from winning.
