Holy sh!t, I don't want to be mean but does that man have some sort of condition? He doesn't look right.

Given his alleged ‘concern’ about housing and health it’s a strange time to head out to Gaza.

I suppose a visit to Catalonia will be pencilled in for later

    Colombia...anyone... good for birdwatching

So no answer to this then? Are we all going to pretend to not notice the elephant in the room? It looks like he may have fetal alcohol syndrome. The oddly shaped forehead and widely spaced eyes would be indicators of this.

Why does it matter what he looks like?

He obviously has some sort of deformity or a medical condition. If I got an answer we could move on but people's reluctance to discuss it is making me more curious.

So now we have your diagnosis what are we supposed to do with it? What does his appearance have to do with him going to Palestine? If he does have FAS (and I have no idea) he does seem to be well past being a fetus at this stage, and has coped successfully with it, whatever your opinion of his politics.

It's hard to tell what he looks like considering he's wearing a burka.

Pretty low in my opinion to comment on how someone looks and make assumptions about a "condition" anonymously on an internet forum.

The poster says they dont want to be mean but thats exactly what they are doing but worse with their weird persistence.

    Why do you care?

Most people don’t, which is probably why no one knows what caused him to look like that. They don’t know why and don’t care why. I don’t understand why you do.

I've read literally hundreds of quips about President Trump's combover and his orange spray tan. Why don't we hear the same moral condemnation about that from you? Or is it only Shinners that are immune from it? Every day in the supermarket checkout line we see gossip magazines discussing which celebrity got breast enhancements, changed their hairstyle or got a nose job. People are naturally curious about these things. If you don't care that's fine. But you don't need to spam the thread telling us repeatedly about how you don't care.

That may be so but (1) I'm not a public figure and (2) there is a difference between being ugly and having a medical condition. The Lord Mayor of Dublin seems to fall into the latter category. If readers think I'm poking fun at him they're wrong. I'm just curious as to what condition he has. It almost appears like a mild form of Down's Syndrome.

Donald Trump chooses to die his skin and hair. He chooses to have that haircut, or whatever the hell that is on his head.

People who get nose or boob jobs ditto. Their choice. It’s actually just fine to mock someone for choosing to look stupid.

It’s not fine to mock someone for something they were born with. I honestly can’t believe that needs to be said.

Fair point. At least you can acknowledge that the Lord Mayor was born with something. You've just admitted that he's not normal, for lack of a better word. I'm just asking what his condition is. If you don't know the answer don't feel obliged to reply.

Christ this thread is some meltdown in action. Who the **** cares what he looks like and why. Very rude to ask once, never mind ask persistently.

Is there something wrong with you that you were born with? Some sort of medical condition perhaps?

Could be autistic or on the spectrum, or could be a neurological condition like OCD or something. What is it thats specifically wrong with you Ameirecan??

To sum up, SF feels an obligation/affinity to Palestine due to their freedom fighter background and perceived similarities between the situation of Palestine/Israel and NI/UK.

Sinn Fein has a history of getting involved in struggles provided they are the correct ones.

    East Timor

    Various places in South America.

Maybe he funded it himself with the help of Sinn Fein

It does appear that he may have a mild form of down syndrome from the photograph. Does anyone know the story with this? There's something off about going to Gaza, who are making these decisions for him?

Discussing his appearance etc is highly inappropriate and a bit offensive.

Offensive to who? I doubt the Lord Mayor is reading the thread and even if he was I'm simply asking a question. Unless you're one of those perpetually outraged bores who take offense on behalf of others.

What don't you ask him what his condition is? I heard he's fairly approcheable. You might explain though what relevance his appearance has to his ability to do his job?

He appears to be visiting Ramallah currently (but sleeping in a plush hotel in Tel Aviv naturally) but I'll be sure to ask him when/if he returns to Dublin. His appearance shouldn't affect his ability to do his job but he doesn't seem to care about doing his job of sorting out Dublin's problems anyway. More interested in grandstanding about Middle Eastern issues.

I have great sympathy for the Palestinians.

The world is running out of the 'correct' kind of conflicts so all the attention is now on Palestine for the moment.

There are injustices and conflicts all over the world but some get more attention than others.

I don't agree with most of the policies of SF but any Western politician with any sort of profile needs to highlight the crap the Israelis are engaged in. As for his accommodation would you prefer if he was sleeping in a tent?
The LM has no power to sort out anything in Dublin, it holds no power other than profile.

    Classic.

I was going to make a post about paying for the trip with the money they saved boycotting companies with links to Israel, but this outdoes anything I could come up with.

seeing as i have known the man for all of his adult life i can assure that there is nobody making decisions for him. He has no mental deficiencies. I dont agree with his politics but just judging on the way that people post here i can be pretty certain he is more intelligent than most here.

Graves' disease maybe? Symptoms include :

Graves' ophthalmopathy (protrusion of one or both eyes)
A distinctly excessive reaction to all sorts of stimuli.

Second one makes me think a lot of posters on boards have Graves' disease

It is because the vast majority are interested in trivia like that, not actual politics much to the chagrin of the politics nerds.

There is a brilliant scene in a documentary about the miner's strike in the UK, anyway, the guy is explaining his involvement in the protests. He goes home to his parents who are watching the ice skating couple Torval and Dean on TV and that is all they want to talk about.

I thought I'd skip from page 1 to page 4 to see if the conversation had moved on from his face. Nope.

I read a different article yesterday that said the israelis tried to ban him but misspelled his name. And that the banning was because he was in favor of a boycott. It never mentioned if the boycott was the BDS boycott. Anyone know?

And now I'm going to go and read pages 2-3. they're al about his face aren't they?

Yeah it was to do with his support for BDS. They've said that they'll be issuing him with a letter on his departure stating that he is banned from entering again.
