So as to show their parent what they are like.

Parents seem to think they're fine but drive me mad.

Set up cctv system in your garden, I’d say whatever they’re up too will stop

Second this. Fair enough if they're caught on CCTV. Different story if you're filming them from the bushes.

If its some neighbour kids misbehaving maybe better not.
If theyre up to thrir antics and the parents think theyre holding a prayer session maybe taking pics to show otherwise might backfire. Just saying.

I'll set it up and edit so the parents know.
Everyone else to knows what their kid is like but don't seem to know.

USB stick will be handed over with prove.

if the camera is facing towards a public road i think you must put up a surveillance sign, had this problem with our outfarm and fly tipping , ask a guard and he said sign must go up, not my fault the wind blew it away lol

To true as a single older person.
I can give the parents access to my cam on their phone but I don't think it would be used.

    I'll still film anyway.

Have you heard about this great concept called a "dog"?

Trained properly this thing can launch at kids in a frenzied attack tearing their shirts and sending them shrieking for shelter. It can be done with the click of one's fingers or a simple command and can be halted just as quickly.

Do not do this OP. If a dog attacks a child like this on your property, you would be legally responsible, even if they were trespassing.

I think the best advice here is the CCTV. Not only would it provide proof, it would more than likely act as a deterrent.

Have a dog that kicks off because of this and that is half the problem.

Proportionality - what images will be captured?
The location of cameras is a key consideration. Use of CCTV to monitor areas where individuals would have a reasonable expectation of privacy would be difficult to justify. Toilets and rest rooms are an obvious example. To justify use in such an area, a data controller would have to demonstrate that a pattern of security breaches had occurred in the area prior to the installation of the system such as would warrant constant electronic surveillance. Where such use can be justified, the CCTV cameras should never be capable of capturing images from cubicles or urinal areas

Cameras placed so as to record external areas should be positioned in such a way as to prevent or minimise recording of passers-by or of another person's private property.

    Proportionality - Recommendations
Under this principle, this Office would expect that a data controller would have carried out detailed assessments as to how the use of such equipment meets with these requirements and would have the following steps carried out and documented:

    A Risk Assessment
    A Privacy Impact Assessment
A Specific Data Protection policy drawn up for use of the devices in a limited and defined set of circumstances only (this policy should include documented data retention and disposal policy for the footage)
Documentary evidence of previous incidents giving rise to security/health and safety concerns
Clear signage indicating image recording in operation.

just so you dont draw trouble on yourself, always some busybody ready to throw the book at you and parents protecting their kids will do just that

Yep. Parents whose kids are caught behaving badly can get VERY defensive and a knee jerk reaction can get nasty. I mean. spying on our kids! How dare you...

My concern would be that if their parents aren't vigilant enough to notice that their kids are off being assholes that they may go on the defensive when it's pointed out to them and zone in on you filming their children.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,634 ✭✭✭✭Graces7

OP;by all means CCTV but make sure there is a large clear sign to that effect and if challenged? Stray cats and dogs?

That may stop them.. or they may start acting up for the cameras

    Never mention the kids ...

    Yep

A year or so back I was driving past a small school on a county lane.

The kids were out playing and a big ball had been lost over the wall.

So OF COURSE I stopped, got out of the car, picked up the ball and threw it back over the wall..

Immediately a row of adults appeared, frowning.

I made some kind of inane remark and fled. Still scares me. Far too easy to be thought wrong and appalling that this kind of vigilance is needed

Stick up a few "poison laid" or "beware of large dog" signs around the perimeter. That always keeps the townies out.

Let it be known in the area that due to vandalism on your land you will be putting up CCTV cameras and prosecuting trespassers.

Developing? It's been like that for the last 25 years (as long as I remember).

There was a moral panic in the mid 90's over paedophiles, stoked by British red tops but came here too.

The data protection act doesn't apply to private individuals homes unless they work from home, so no data controller. As far a I'm aware.

There is absolutely nothing illegal whatsoever about videoing or photographing fully clothed children in public or on your own property.

Should You? Probably not, as this thread shows people have all sorts of mad ideas about the act and will insinuate you're a pedo for doing so.

So yes, you can do it, but don't.
