    Hi folks,
Birthday coming up and family want to buy me a watch.
    Thinking this

    https://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/diver-watch/ocean-vintage-gmt-neu.html

Anyone have any views on quality? Novice when it comes to watches. I wonder when it be back in stock
    Thanks,
    Mick

That would be my favourite dive model from Steinhart, quality is excellent.

My only gripe with Steinhart is the straight lugs on the Ocean models and a lot of buyers sell them on real quick after trying one on. If possible try find someone to let you see how one sits on your wrist, they really need curve the lugs even a little.

There is a bit of a downwards trend in size currently, that is 42 mm diameter, you'd want a decent wrist size to carry it off.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

I love Steinharts...I recommend them to any one looking for a decent watch that you can't buy in shops here.

Have a Miltary 42 which I wear daily and have an ocean one green(can't affor a Rolex Hulk :) which I wear at the weekends.

Go for it , you won't regret the buy.

Bought this watch off Eoin on here a couple of weeks ago and I love it.

I own two Steinharts (the Ocean One Black is the other one) and the quality is great. My wrists aren't huge and it looks good.

All in all Steinhart are a great watch.

P.S. Follow up to my missus getting pissed at me buying another watch. I snook the Vintage GMT out of the drawer and I've been wearing it for a week.

Conclusion: My missus doesn't notice when I have a new watch. This is good information to know :D

Well mines on its way.. FedEx site said delivery was scheduled by end of today but I guess it's Monday now. I had a quick question re sizing. If the strap is too loose I'll need to take to jewellers to take link out?
    Thanks,
    Mick

Wait till you get it first, if you decide you don't like it and the plastic stickers etc. are still intact you can send it back. If the links are scratched might not be possible to send it back either.
It's not hard to swop out links with a small screwdriver, just be careful tightening them. It might be worthwhile using some red loctite on the screws.

Enjoy your new watch, my wife is still wearing mine:(

Oh I don't intend sending back :) I'd rather a professional adjust if needs be

If you can afford a steinhart you can afford a watch with character.

You could probably afford ten of them to be fair.

Watch arrived fair few links to big. Dropped into jewelers to resize

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,263 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

Nice! For future reference, Steinhart use screws in the bracelet rather than pins, so they're really easy to resize - a screwdriver for glasses usually does the trick.

My Ocean One is my beater and before I put it on a nato the screws in the bracelet came loose and it fell off my arm.

I tightened a good few of the screws and there were no problems for the next couple of months.

You might want to invest in a micro screwdriver set just so you can tighten them yourself and not have to go back to the jewellers

Sized at jewelers today. Place I left yesterday phoned me to say they wouldn't do as we're afraid to touch screws in case they damage. Brought to jewelers in rush who did no bother. Fiver is all he charged me. Will take while to get used to wearing as is heaviest watch I've worn and long time since I've had a metal strap. Feels great though. Unfortunately back in the box for another couple of days till birthday :)

Its an automatic so it will self wind when you wear it. but to start it you can wind it or move it left/right horizontally

You describe Steinhart as soulless and having no character! A brand that is very well regarded by most of the regular users of this particular forum (of which you are not) and you honestly expect people to ask for your advice? No thanks.

I smell troll JH, so my advice is not to feed it.

Alpha_zero, don't post in this thread again and any more obvious wind ups(no pun) your access will be removed. This forum has been a troll free community and I aim to keep it that way.

PS if you've any trouble in the future with pics, PM me and when I'm around I'll resize and embed them for you. Goes for everyone.

BTW.. I'm clueless in relation to how to set the time.. How does the winder work?

Not wearing it today so this is from memory.

    1) Unscrew the Crown. This is position 1 and you can wind the watch by rotating clockwise (you'll feel resistance as the mainspring tightens)

    2) Pull the Crown out all the way. This is position 3 and used to set the time of the watch.

    3) Push the Crown back in once. This is position 2 and used to set the date and GMT hand. As far as I remember is anticlockwise for date and clockwise of GMT hand.

Thanks, the idea of the gmt hand is to reference another time zone? I work with US a lot in Boston so going setting 5 hours behind gmt

Exactly this. The GMT hand is set to the "other" time zone you want reference.

    Hi guys,
Confused with the gmt hand. I set it 5 hours behind the hour hand but it's not maintaining the 5 hour gap between the hour hand and the gmt hand. I googled and it mentioned the gmt had does 2 revolutions in 24 hours whereas the hour hand does one? So if it's 9pm and I want to set the gmt hand to 4pm what do I set to?
    Thanks,
    Mick

Set it to the hour not the amount of hours. The dial is 12 hours but the bezel is 24 hours. So if it's 8pm on the dial and you want 5 hours behind for second time zone point the GMT hand to 15 on the bezel.

Thanks, so the gmt hand is set against the bezel not in reference to the hour hand? So basically set it to the time zone you want to use. For example if I want to use Boston and it's 930 in Dublin I set the gmt hand to 430 on the outer bezel?

No that's 4.35am you want it pointed to 16 on the outer bezel. So 9.35pm on dial and 16.35 on bezel. Numbers 1-12 up to midday is am and after 12 is pm.
